2018 Chairman's Hall of Fame Predictions

It's that time of year! I'd been waiting to see the annual prediction thread and it hadn't popped up yet, so I guess I'll kick it off! The annual Championship Chairman's Award prediction/speculation thread! Which Houston and Detroit team do you think will take home the award? Which six teams will be deemed Chairman's Award Finalists?

For those not familiar with Chairman's Award Finalists, it's an award/recognition that was introduced by FIRST last year. To quote FIRST about them:

"Three teams from all the Chairman’s Award contenders at each location will be identified as Finalists for our most prestigious award, the Chairman’s Award. These teams will be identified during the Divisional awards ceremonies Saturday morning at each location...

...Chairman’s Award Finalists will not be selected one per each of the three Divisions, but from the entire pool of Chairman’s Award candidates attending each location. This means it’s possible for a single Division at a given location to have zero, one, two, or even all three Chairman’s Award finalists. We are taking this approach to ensure the finalists identified really are the top three contenders for our most important award at each location."

3/4 of last year's Chairman's Award Finalists will be competing at Champs for Chairman's again.

Note: for those of you who thought this was my personal Houston predictions thread, never fear: I'll be posting that in the next day or two as a reply here

My guess for Houston: 1902, 2974, and 399.

And my biased answered for winner: 1902.

Re: 2018 Chairman's Hall of Fame Predictions

I'll just do Detroit since I know those teams better:

Finalists: 2169 (repeats), 1241, 1885 (repeats)

Winner: 1885

Re: 2018 Chairman's Hall of Fame Predictions

2220 and 1885 are my picks for Detroit. I think both are finalists and one of them wins it. I've read a bunch of essays of contenders from Detroit and those are the two that stood out to me the most.

For Houston I would give 4911 a solid chance.

1678 winning would be epic, this year was their first ever RCA.

Houston: 1902, 1868, 399.

Surprised that nobody has mentioned the Space Cookies so far. I wouldn't be shocked if they won it all this year.

Detroit: 1885, 125, 2169.

1241 this year has easily one of the best chairman's videos I've ever seen.

Re: 2018 Chairman's Hall of Fame Predictions

I'd really like to see 1902 win it but that's only because of a work affiliation. However, other teams that I could see going home as HoFers are 1868, 2485, 980, and 1619.

It's really not up to me, so to all teams in the running, good luck!

Keeping in the PNW theme, I think that 2557 has a good chance of taking a CAF home. They are one of the foundational teams in Washington State, and took home their third DCMP Chairman's banner at PNW DCMP two weeks ago.

4125 has a much better chance than 4911 imo, keeping within PNW.

4911 has started 3 (?) international teams, vs. 4125 having the highest FIRST participation out of any school district in the US

Both are good, but Confidential hasn't done anything out of Oregon

Maybe we'll have the first and second pnw team to take a Chairmans Finalist banner this year

PNW has some incredible teams though, and I hope they get some more recognition on a world-stage.
