The Zebracorns are Looking for Mentors

We're kicking things off for the year and, as usual, The Zebracorns are looking for more mentors to join our striped organization. We aren't picky about skills and are really just looking for people who like to learn, have a good time, and have a passion for working with students to push boundaries.

There aren't many requirements:
  • Need to have a grasp of dealing with smarty-pants students(inmates has been deemed to be a culturally insensitive term for some of our students though it might be more accurate).
  • Must be willing to accept public humiliation by wearing fashionably loud clothing.
  • Must be capable of passing a state background check - this is more for your own safety than the students.
  • Must be capable of creating meme material for CD and /r/frc.
  • Must be ok with working in a confined 8'x8' space and coping with rolling heavy road cases over annoying foam tiles as well as wearing unsafe lanyards and earplugs at all NC events.
  • Must be able to program (we don't care about the language or the platform but it's just something we all do).
  • You must be able to read.

Nice to haves:
  • Experience working with ROS.
  • Experience working with the Unreal Engine.
  • Favorite paper color is white.
  • Knowing what #BDIBS stands for.

There aren't a lot of benefits:
  • Occasional international travel to act as a personal assistant and valet to students for conferences.
  • If we hire you then you can collect a token amount of money as a state contractor - this also makes you eligible for an NCSECU account.
  • We have at least one rule added to the FRC manual ever other year.
  • You get to build the robot (you don't get to drive it unfortunately).
  • Occaisional craft "cookies" at the local establishments.

Yes, I've included a lot of jokes in this post but this is also meant to be serious. The Durham/RTP area is growing like crazy and people are moving to it from all over and we're seriously looking for more mentors. If you know of anyone then have them get in touch - marshall@team900.org

But do you do Field-relative positioning through non-linear state estimation?

Re: The Zebracorns are Looking for Mentors

I'd have thought you'd feed several thousand photos of mentors into a deep learning program and mount the resulting algorithm on a tele-presence robot. The general CD #whoami set should get you through the first, third, fifth, seventh, and maybe sixth points; photos of your current and past mentors should tighten up the others.

Re: The Zebracorns are Looking for Mentors

This begs a question. What is more valuable: craft "cookies" or Mentor bacon?

Re: The Zebracorns are Looking for Mentors

Can you qualify the minimal acceptance snark for applying Mentors?

Can you describe the indepth snark training classes that Mentors will need to attend ( a syllabus would be fine). Is there a companion CD posting seminar that future Mentors would be enrolled in.

I can wrench, smoke electronics, have malt abilities, but not sure I have the communication skills that are Zebracorn Hallmarks.

I was raised on a diet of snark and witticisms. In fact, I inherited sarcasm from my mother and hardheaded stubbornness from my father. That being said, we teach sarcasm skills, just ask Patricia (shes around here somewhere). She was sweet and innocent when she found us and we turned her into a sarcastic menace who offered 1114 a cookie for alliance selection.

Yep, no minimum for sarcasm. We can train that.

We got a bunch of them. You willing to come get them or do we need to arrange transport? Can you feed and house them?
