Does thinking about the robot while I gaze through the bag count as "interfacing"? I am not using Vulcan mind-meld.
In 2010, before the written approved media access, I took a bagged robot to an elementary school before the Troy event to inspire the kids to come see the robots. I did a nice write-up and submitted it. I was told, all I had to do was ask for permission. I asked, how was I supposed to know that. A year or so later, we get the demonstration access.

In 2013, we began asking/pushing for the pre-inspection access. We got that this year.

Still pressing for the 6/hours per week that Ed and I worked on in 2012-2013. I could use some marketing help on this one. I liked Allen Gregory's #36hours it could use a little more punch though. Maybe #betterin36hours or something along those lines. Maybe a nice little media campaign of posting pics of robots in bags with a particular # and whatever tag FIRST datamines might be beneficial. IE #betterN36hours #suchinspire #omgrobots with a pic of a bagged robot. Thoughts?

For those that have not worked with me. I have found the really nice approach with an item odd enough to make the person form their own question tends to work better than whining/complaining. The complaint puts the person on the defensive. The complement puts you "on the same side". The odd incident/nudge, allows them to ask "Why are we doing it this way?", which puts them closer to your direction on the onset of the thought process.

Re: The biggest reasons Bag and Tag is terrible

The bag gets left in your chase van to keep the pit clean, then the teacher's daughter passes out in the bathroom on Saturday afternoon, then she takes off with another mentor in the chase van to follow the ambulance, then you win the regional, then you're trapped in North Charleston Coliseum with the robot because your bag is also at the hospital.

(Yes, this is a true story. Palmetto 2012. Shoutout to 1293 for giving us theirs so we could go home.)

This is just a trash bag though. I'd feel bad putting my robot in a trash bag.

Re: The biggest reasons Bag and Tag is terrible

A black bag? How would we do the Bill of Material ("Cost Accounting Worksheet")?

Tell me, do you guys really have these done when the robot goes in the bag?

Doesn't happen for us.

1x Arm - $400
1x Swerve - $500
1x Lift - $400
1x Intake - $300
TOTAL CAWst - less than $4000

It was all made by mentors and then re-sold to the students at CAWst.

We accidentally sent the file to our large-format printer instead of the regular one.
Do you think the inspectors will take a 4ft Lockup Form?

You know what they say about really big lock up forms?

Nothing, which implies to me that they'll have to take it. Now I'm not sure where an inspector will find a large format pen to fill it out so you might want to bring one along.

Signing a 4 foot lockup form sounds like a good use for my extra-large sharpie.

Convert the inspector's signature to a vector, scale it up, convert it to gcode, and either:
  • Bring a proper plotter
  • Tape a pen to the side of a 3d printer

Re: The biggest reasons Bag and Tag is terrible

Bag and Tag is horrible because the plastic bags they give are low quality.
When traveling to Kettering last Saturday for week 0 with our practice robot, we bagged it to protect it when in the bed of the truck. Didn't get 5 miles before the bag was basically torn to shreds. Higher quality bags, about twice as thick would be good.
