Re: 2019 FRC events

The two Illinois Regionals are confirmed accoring to the Illinois FIRST website for 2018: https://www.firstillinoisrobotics.org/events/

Central Illinois: Week 3 (March 14-17)
Midwest: Week 6 (April 4-7)

Interesting that both of the Illinois Events are shifting to Fri-Sun schedules this year. I was skeptical of it with Heartland this last year, but I'll have to say, I'm a fan.

I believe you have those dates wrong. Those were the regional dates from this past year.

Darn this would've been fantastic. If there was a way to make it happen for real, just tell me what I have to do.

Not me -- I need time on the day after an event for my long nap.

+1. As a college student, missing Fridays can be a pain, especially if a professor is less accommodating. Friday Saturday events have forced me to choose between bailing on my team for competition days and taking hits to my grades.

We STRONGLY encourage our alumni attending college to prioritize their education first. As much as we love having them with us, we prefer they focus on their future. That way they can be an even better example to our current students when they return.

Hi Hailey,

According to someone from NYC FIRST in the MAR discord (of all places), HVR and NYC are confirmed weeks 4/6. These are the only two confirmed.

As for FLR, it's likely to be March 14-16 (week 3), but likely still not finalized. I heard these dates several months ago, so it could be out of date information, however those dates align with the second half of RIT's spring break.

RPI's break is the week beforehand, which makes March 7-9 (week 2) seem likely. SUNY Poly's break is the same week as RIT, which makes them seem like a lock in for a week 3 overlap with FLR -- it's either overlap with FLR or TVR at this point.

According to Mark earlier in the thread, LI1/2 are doing another back to back set, this time in week 5.

This is what my event calendar looks like at this point: https://i.imgur.com/uiDeLNK.png

tldr
week 1 - none
week 2 - miami valley (not NY, but still relevant) / TVR
week 3 - CNY / FLR
week 4 - pittsburgh / HVR
week 5 - LI 1 / 2
week 6 - NYC
week 7 - none

Montreal and Buckeye are still tbd, I have no information on them

While I haven't done any Sunday events, wouldn't this be a wash, as a Monday off on the back end would balance a Thursday or Friday on the front end?

Also, glad to see that most of the regionals in the southeast have already posted. Having placed high enough at Beach Bot Battle for the first time to be selecting our own alliance, we're really hoping to raise enough to do two regionals this year. Based on our BBB performance, we got approval from our school administration for it, should we raise the $$. It turns out that this year week 2 is the weekend after Mardi Gras. This is a big deal for us, because the school is literally closed for the ENTIRE WEEK of Mardi Gras; we can do Rock City or Oklahoma with no loss of class time for our students. [Though most mentors have little or no relief.]

OBTW: Mardi Gras, like Easter, moves forward and back based on the day and day of the week on which the first full moon following the Boreal Vernal Equinox falls. You can't make this stuff up. In the seven years we've competed, we've had Mardi Gras before bag day thrice, after bag day twice, and on bag day twice. Where Mardi Gras falls relative to bag day, and how we handle it (as a week off, or a week on), always has a major impact on our season.

+1. If DCMP was a fri-sun event last year, I would of gotten home at 7am Monday morning with an 8am class. As it stands, Volunteering at half the PNW events are already off the table because of this.
