Go to Post Earlier today, I finally saw a copy of the [WFA] essay that was submitted by my team (there will be a separate reckoning later with all those that kept this a secret from me). The narrative overwhelmed me. - dlavery [more]

Exclamation 2018 Northern CA AI, Business, Mech Design, and Media Workshops | June/July/August

Northern CA teams -

If you’re interested in learning about AI (specifically computer vision), fundraising & marketing, mechanical design & CAD, or media (graphic design, video editing, or animation) from experienced fellow FIRSTers this summer in an in-depth, hands-on environment, then come join Tesseract Initiative for one of our workshops! We're a coalition of FRC veterans, many of whom have been running workshops together for several years now, from 12+ teams across CA, who wanted to give back and go farther by coming together to design accessible, student-driven, and STEAM-focused events and resources promoting creativity, computation, community, and collaboration - especially around topics we felt were particularly interesting & relevant within STEAM fields today, yet not always well supported yet within FRC teams. This is our unified banner from this year forward, and we hope to benefit not only all teams, but also, hopefully, the wider STEAM community by extension!

This year, we'll be presenting workshops in the Bay and Sacramento areas - we already ran some events in June, but here's what's coming up:
(Please note these run from 8:30A-4:30P unless otherwise stated - plan on staying the whole time - and will not be recorded due to the focus on hands-on interactivity and in-person collaboration, although slides will be posted online)Sign up by no later than two days before a workshop's date so we can get key reminders and details to you.
Note: Sessions 1 and 2, when offered, are independent of each other; we just run each workshop twice when possible so more participants have chances to attend in case of time conficts etc.
You only need to register for one.

Each workshop costs $7 so we can provide lunch and supplies for you and the presenters, though you can opt out and have this waived if you bring your own lunch.
(The only exception is the Sac workshop, which due to its later start will just cost a flat $3 for snacks instead.)

Additionally, since this whole workshop series is being run entirely by an awesome group of volunteers independently of any existing FRC team, we also ask for a recommended, totally voluntary contribution of an additional $3 (or more) to help support supplies and other needs & goals for our current and future events.
(Note, however, that contributions are not tax-deductible at this time, should that matter to you.)

You can check our Facebook or Instagram if you'd like more frequent updates, as well as reminders on our upcoming events sent out about a week prior to each.
We're trying to limit the number of mass announcements we post to teams, so more immediate news will be on those channels.

Thanks, let us know if you have any questions (or check our FAQs), and we hope you'll be able to join us for a workshop!
