Would they use the same type of game piece two years in a row?

Other than balls, My history notes say FIRST has never used the same type of game piece two years in a row. If you define balls tightly enough to exclude stiff round shapes with with holes (2017 fuel and 2009 cells), the last time we had back-to-back ball games was 2000-2002.

That's why I don't really expect to manipulate "coins" - they're too much like gears.

Placing an inflatable coin shaped tube through a vertical slot presents a significantly different challenge than manipulating a gear in 2017.

How do you manipulate a coin shaped tube so that you can insert it into a vertical slot? I've been thinking about it a little bit, and it doesn't seem to be trivial.

Forget manipulators; I'm having enough trouble wrapping my brain around what you mean by a coin shaped tube.

When I said tube I was envisioning a water tube with no hole in it. More or less coin shaped...

Manipulating that would not be too difficult, with a roller claw with rotatable wrist.

Now if the "coin" was much softer (like the Floppy I said before) it would be far more difficult to push through the coin slot.

Fortunately, I'm on a team that could afford this technology, but I'd hate for there to be a strong incentive to implement tech that isn't affordable for a large number of teams.
I was mostly joking, but I agree, it's not a very accessible technology at this time. Perhaps in the future?

You see, I think we're thinking of the wrong type of coin.

Or perhaps eight Ningis.

What about green inflatable rectangular tubes as "dollar bills"? There could be different amount bills...

Re: 2018 Game Speculation

According to Frank there will be "No place this year for team banners to be hung": https://www.firstinspires.org/roboti...-rules-updates

Does this mean that there will be some object on top of most/all of the alliance station wall? Surely there must be an alliance station wall, right...?

Not trying to say it was anything new, just pointing out that the new size of drive teams for future games could be 5 instead of 4.

Using what we know about how FIRST utilized the 5 member DT last year in the game could give us some insight into the roles of the members of the DT this year.

I think that there are still going to be human players that will “process” game peices before they are scored this year. (Like piolts having to pull up gears)
