During alliance selections, if a team representative Graciously Accepts, that alliance carries a yellow card with them through playoffs.

Re: Proposals for 2018 IRI Rule Changes?

I think whatever IRI does it needs to stop the snowballing. So the ideas of bonuses for winning the Scale in auto may sound cool, but will only make that issue worse. Same goes for gaining points for controlling an opponent's Switch.

I would say lessen the weight of the Scale by making the Switches grant 2pts/second.

The Force Power Up needs a buff as well. I would keep Lv1 the same, make Lv2 control both your Switch and Scale, and then make Lv3 control both Switches and the Scale.

While I'm buffing Power Ups, why not make it so you can use both Force and Boost at the same time? This wouldn't benefit teams in the lead (they have both Switch/Scale so Force would be unnecessary), but could help teams behind make a comeback.

Just sic Carolyn Nobel on them. After she's done with them they will probably ban the word graciously from their vocabulary.

Re: Proposals for 2018 IRI Rule Changes?

Have a weighted Companion Cube for each alliance, with 2-4x the mass of a normal power cube. Keeps with the video game aesthetic, and adds an interesting strategic element.

(I think someone on 2370 mentioned a weighted cube as an interesting rules twist)

If you really want to make it interesting, stick it in the center of the Cube Zone pile.

Re: Proposals for 2018 IRI Rule Changes?

Any changes to the number of cubes or positioning of cubes would drastically change the effects of cube starvation IMO, so those should be off-the-table.

I'd say finding ways to relax annoying penalties, like touching the scale, cube launching, and maybe endgame platform zone extensions is the only real "change" I'd want to see to the game.

Otherwise, let the egos play

Re: Proposals for 2018 IRI Rule Changes?

Two things to add based off what I read:

1) Yeah, flagrantly immaterial scale touching, or touching that hurts the alliance doing the touching (like bumping it the other way without removing cubes), should be a no-call.

2) Anyone that drops wings or lifters before endgame can use them as long as no alliance partner starts climbing on before T=15. Right now, attempting to use them at all is a red card, which feels a little strong.

Auto RP requires a cube in the switch AND scale

I like this idea. Ownership or just a cube placement? If ownership is it ownership at the end of auto or just at some point?

Make this happen please.

Have it so that you need to own at the end of th auto period. This way the RP isn't basically a gauretee.

This would help teams that have 4 and 3 cube autos climb to the top of the rankings which we would want.

Re: Proposals for 2018 IRI Rule Changes?

These are probably too ambitious (would require field PLC changes), but I'd love to see this version of Power Up be played somewhere:

1. Replace the "Levitate" power-up with a 3 cube "Swap" power-up. This permanently switches the plate assignment on the scale (until/unless the other alliance plays theirs) and locks out any other power ups from being played for 10s. This immediately switches the assignment of null territory as well, but robots already in the null territory when the power-up is played have 10s to vacate before fouls are called (i.e. any new robot from the previous alliance entering the null territory at this time does not benefit from this grace period).

Rationale: Opens the door for a team to recover from an early scale deficit through the exchange. Yes, it can be countered, but this requires putting someone on exchange duty early in the match.

2. A "Levitate" bonus (30 points plus credit for a free climb) is earned by whichever alliance has control of the scale at the end of teleop. This is the only way to get the free climb.

Rationale: Provides an incentive to continue to play for the scale even late in the match, and makes for more end-game drama. Let's see those towering stacks of cubes.

3. Either alliance can earn points on either switch.

Rationale: Gives switch bots a prayer against scale bots and ensures the previous change isn't OP.

4. Eliminate launching penalties for launches unless unsafe. Use common sense for reffing this.

Rationale: Realistically nobody comes close to this except in very weird, obviously non-intentional cases.

5. Eliminate scale touching penalties unless it gives your alliance an advantage.

Rationale: Eliminates the double whammy of tipping the scale towards your opponent AND being penalized for it.

6. Any contact in protected areas in auto results in the opposing alliance being awarded a free auto quest RP.

Rationale: This fixes a straight up hole in the original rules.
