Re: Team Update 11

Well the change to R03 is a relief. My team realized this early on and undersized our frame, but it would have been a shame at competitions to see teams needing to cut their frame or have their event completely ruined. FIRST really did the right thing there.

Re: Team Update 11

Glad they changed the cable protector model. We bought some of the old field-spec cable protectors, and they started cracking surprisingly quickly once driver practice was underway.

Hopefully the new model holds up better!

Also, big win with the R03 update, thanks FIRST!

Re: Team Update 11

The new, softer cable protectors look better in every way! That said, I'm curious if there will now be a noticeable difference in handling between the side that actually has cables running through it and the side that doesn't.

Re: Team Update 11

Thanks to the GDC was making a reasonable change to R03. I really appreciate that they're willing to look at the big picture and are flexible enough to make these types of changes.

Well, they could just put a dead/broken Ethernet cable in the other side just to make things more even.

I'll disagree.

It's rewarding bad behavior and is unfair to those who actually read and followed the rules.

I'm curious what kind of competitive advantage teams get when their bolt heads stick outside of their frame.

+1/2" X L x H extra area to use ... maybe?
Not having to adjust your frame after others already have?
Not having to engineer around the difference in area?

A couple of years ago (soccer year) my old team worked hard all build to ensure that the soccer ball could not get underneath us. We went to our only regional week 1. After week 1 they changed the ruling allowing the soccer ball to intrude without a penalty ... because others didn't design to keep it out.

I guess if enough don't follow the rules, FIRST will change them. Seems wrong and unfair to those who followed the rules.

It's annoying to those who read and understood the rules.

Enough people failed to understand. Not bad behavior.
Understanding and ignoring is bad behavior.

Some will cry "Oh, mob mentality will sway the committee on other rules".
The committee is not ignorant. When you have inspectors saying they read the rules wrong you know something is off.

Update 11

So first update 11, tosses all the hard work that teams did to be rules compliant with R03, and now CD closes the thread.

Lets all gets on board with the kinder gentler FRC where everyone is a winner.

Limits are so, restrictive and well limiting. Lets ensure that everyone is a winner. Failure is so yesterday.

To paraphrase a famous, but old movie line "Consequences, we don't need no steenkin consequences"

Re: Team Update 11

It was the right thing to do, happy for teams that never received the R03 message until now. Hope this resolved situation helps with rules in future games. On the plus side we now know how to shorten the kit bot base and that the wheels fit.
