Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

The Duluth East Daredevils are once again hosting the Gitchi Gummi Get-Together! We've got a goal of raising the team count from 24 to 30, and of adding some new workshops!

The event will be taking place July 20-21 at Duluth East High School in Duluth MN. We currently have 15 teams on our list, and as per usual we're adding teams on a first-come-first-serve basis, so sign up quickly.

Once again, we intend to have a few workshops and discussions on Friday before matches start. If you have any requests for specific topics you'd like to see a presentation on, or if your team wants to host a workshop or discussion, feel free to post in this thread or send me a PM.

As our schedule currently stands, we'll run 12 matches per team, putting us at a total of 60 matches.

As per usual, we'll be adding thirty seconds of time to the teleoperated portion of the match. Stay tuned for more rule updates - they'll both be posted here and emailed to the contact email provided at registration.

As we've done the last 4 years, we encourage teams to have multiple drive teams. One of the points of the Gitch is to help teams get competition-style drive practice in a non-pressured environment, and we encourage teams to offer this chance to as many students as possible.

Our registration form, as well as more detailed information about event logistics (and UMD housing!) can be found on our website.

(The jury is still out on whether we'll be following the suggestion from this thread, but I can dream...)

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

Current list:
1816, The Green Machine
2177, The Robettes
2491, NoMythic
2512, Duluth East Daredevils
2846, FireBears
3026, Orange Crush
3102, Tech-No-Tigers
3130, The ERRORs
3244, Granite City Gear Heads
3275, The Regulators
4009, Denfeld DNA Robotics
4230, TopperBots
4607, CIS
5690, SubZero Robotics
6047, Proctor Frostbyte

To any MN team on the fence about signing up: I highly recommend it. Gitchi last year was some of the most fun our team has had (despite all our problems). It is so relaxed that basically any team member can pick up the control during one of the many matches your team gets and you can make friends with pretty much anyone there. Iím super excited to be going back!

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

40 (ish) days left! We've got 19 teams registered right now, so there's plenty of space left.

As promised, the rule updates:

G09: Launching of cubes will not be penalized as long as the intent is clearly to place CUBES on either SCALE PLATES or SWITCH PLATES, or in the ALLIANCE EXCHANGE ZONE.

If a team moves more than one CUBE at a time, as long as it is clear there was no strategic intent behind the action, it will not receive a penalty from G22. (This applies to unintentionally moving cubes during AUTONOMOUS.)

RO5: 5 pounds will be added to the ROBOT weight limit

These updates are all designed to encourage new drivers, and were made with the idea in mind that we (should) have newer drivers on the field.

On that note, we recommend that all teams have at least three drive team's worth of students trained and prepared to use the robot controls. We will be publishing a recommended schedule which indicates which matches teams should use their primary or in-season drive team in, to insure fairness. We do encourage teams to be fluid however, and do not require strict adherence to this schedule.

If anyone has suggestions for seminars to be held, or if anyone wants to host one, please feel free to PM me, or contact us through the team website.

Tentative schedule can be found on our website here.

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

The Gitch is fast approaching: only 7 days until field build! 2512 is super excited to welcome all of the teams to Duluth! (Except for 4009 and 4230, because they live here already.)

We're excited to be holding another mentor match this year. It'll be taking place after the conclusion of the Playoff matches and the awards ceremony, so stick around! If your team is interested in participating, send someone to pit admin. We'll be holding a drawing to determine which 6 teams get to participate last year. If your team doesn't care to put your robot in harm's way, you should still stick around to watch. The schadenfreude is sure to be present, if last year is any indication. (Thanks to 1816 for suggesting it last year!)

7 days left!

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

Hey all. Due to some miscommunication the Get-Together is not being broadcasted on The Blue Alliance. However, if you're interested in some excellent matches between some of the best teams in the Northern Midwest you can tune your browser to either

YouTube
or
Twitch.

Opening ceremonies start at 1:30, so come on over and enjoy a fun and lighthearted event with all of us. We've got a wonderful competition set up for breaks in the matches so keep an eye out for it. We hope you all enjoy.

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

Alliance selection:

1) 3130-4230-3275 4th
2) 1732-3244-2177* 3rd
3) 1816-4607-2846 W
4) 2169-7886-2175 F

*2491 was called as a backup for 2177.

Thank you to team 2512 for an amazing event! I found it well-organized and a lot of fun, despite all the problems our robot had. Additional thanks to Linnea for co-leading the strategy round table with me - it was quite enjoyable to lead and I hope people learned a decent bit from it. Major shoutout to 1732, 3244 and 2177 for calling us in for the 3rd place match, and special thanks to 2177 for letting us have a 3rd place trophy when there weren’t enough. We hope you get yours soon!

Re: Gitchi Gummi Get-Together 2018

1732 really enjoyed our time in Duluth this past weekend, I believe that was our first time competing in Minnesota. Our kids said they loved the amount of matches we got to play, the venue, the teams, the atmosphere, and especially the moose hats. We certainly hope to be able to come back next year.

Thank you to 3244, 2177 for playing with us in elims and thanks to 2491 for being ready to step in and play one more match.

You will see big things from them (NOS) in the near future.

The CMNRH had a great showing with 3244 winning 3rd place (they won this event last season), NOS as finalists, and 4607 winning our first event since 2014 MRI. Thanks to 1816 for grabbing us up in the first round and then teaming with 2846 (for the first time for 4607/2846 in elims?) for making this possible.

And to 2512 - what a great trophy! An aluminum moose on top of a cut-out of Lake Superior (Gitchi Gummi) is impressive!

Good Luck!

Thanks 2512 for putting on an amazing event as always. It's always a great time up in Duluth. I had a blast game announcing for the first time. Look forward to further opportunities.

I believe NOS is made up of many people who are/were associated with 3026 Orange Crush. They were using 3026's (practice?) robot as well. Not to devalue their fantastic performance, but for some of the members and mentors, it may not have been their first robotics competition.
