Best Young Teams

There is a common misconception in life that youth means bad or inexperienced. What FRC Teams do you believe break that misconception? The first two teams that come to mind are 3310 and 5406 but I would love to hear other opinions on the topic.

Re: Best Young Teams

How do you define young? 3310 has been around since 2010. This was eight seasons ago, close to 1/3rd of FRC's age.

Anyway,

5803 and 5817 instantly spring to mind, but 5172 takes the cake as a local maxima on the age-ability graph. 4539 has certainly been a rising star on the MN (and global) scene.

Re: Best Young Teams

6328. As a second year team, they won an event, took home a Chairman's award, and captained a division alliance. This is after a New England DCMP Rookie All Star and winning an event as rookies.

Runner up: 5895, with two event wins to date and who captained a division alliance to finals their rookie year.

Re: Best Young Teams

I'm a huge fan of 6705 in both the seasons they've competed in thus far.

6705 2017 might be the record for highest performance simplest robot of all time (KOP drive + a passive gear mech + great driving). They had some GREAT quals in roebling.

Re: Best Young Teams

Out of the district that doesn't matter, 6502.

Went bold in their rookie year, 2017, using a mecanum drive and also had pretty nice vision positioning. Also was an alliance captain at DCMP and took home rookie all-star.

In 2018, an event win, 3-time event captain including a run to DCMP finals and captaining an alliance at Champs. Made use of IR sensors for a two cube auto and already started running custom.

Re: Best Young Teams

In regards to rookies, I have to shout out 7048. They came to Great Northern with a rookie bot like no other I have ever seen. During the competition, according to our scouting data, they averaged a 7.5-second per cube cycle time, had a pretty consistent climb, and had a max of 5 cubes on the scale and 7 in the vault. This led to them being an amazing 5th overall pick and one of the main reasons we got to semis. At Worlds, they were selected by the 3rd alliance of 1629, 33 and 836 on Daly, one of the deepest fields there.

EDIT: Right after I posted this, I realized I’m currently wearing their shirt.

5406 and 6072. Both relatively young teams who are building phenomenal robots and developing long-term sustainable success.

Re: Best Young Teams

My votes are in for 5803 and 6418. Apex always blows me away with their creations year after year. The Missfits have gotten off to an explosive start since 2017, and have proven themselves as one of the strongest young teams in the Bay Area several times.

Re: Best Young Teams

How can anyone leave 5687 off this list? 7 blue banners in 4 years. 4 technical awards on last years robot and this years robot pushed them over the top so they now own all 5. First pick of an Einstein alliance that could have won worlds if it wasn't for 1241 preventing them from putting up that final gear. Fantastic team to work with and their drive coach is top notch. I could write a novel with all the praise I have for this team. Probably the best team in the state from one of the best schools in the state. (We are working on getting the Maine School of Science and Mathematics a team so they can have a showdown.) My other picks from NE would be 6329 and 6328.

Re: Best Young Teams

"Best Young Teams" in terms of what? Chairmans? Robot ability? Safety?

5172 is an easy answer in terms of robot ability and team safety. Year after year they continue to impress. They're also the nicest group of people you will meet.

In terms of Chairmans, I'm very impressed by 5515 with their 2 RCA wins, 4911 with 3 District wins and 2 DCCA wins, 4944 with 2 RCA wins, 4525 with 2 Dsitricts wins and 2 DCCA, and 4125 with 5 District wins and 2 DCCA.

I think 6314 is deserving of mention. Regional Chairman's Award at AZN this year, which is just their second season!
