Re: Mecanum wheels

We did, and since we're an arm bot, I love it for the incresed manuverability, but hate some of the problems we've been having with turning because of gearbox binding. Hopefully these plates will save us.

Re: Mecanum wheels

401 did. Driving circles around another robot while facing the same direction is an amazing feeling. For me, it's kinda like this:

With tank-style drive w/ omni wheels, it's like.... driving. With mecanum, it's like ballroom dancing.

Re: Mecanum wheels

I would have to completely agree with you. Those gyros get moody, though, and it's not pleasant when you're doing a demo in front of a bunch of kids showing them how holonomic works and the gyro decides to tweak.

Re: Mecanum wheels

We were considering it, but decided that power and traction would server our purpose much better. If everyone was using mecanum wheels, then we'd want to be able to push everyone around so we ended up using 2 wheel drive with IFI wheels.

Re: Mecanum wheels

It will be interesting how the mecanum wheels do when push comes to shove.

I know how they did last year.
