FIRST Teams Change Lives with GoBabyGo!

The Barstow Kuhnigits FRC 1939 in Kansas City are on a mission this holiday season to launch a global effort to give every child the chance at self-directed mobility through GoBabyGo! Our solution? Teach thousands of high school robotics students all over the world how to “hack” Power Wheels ride-on toy cars into motorized wheelchairs, and partner them with GoBabyGo chapters and families in need.

To do this, the team created GoBabyGo Connect – www.gbgconnect.com

This is a free, online forum where GoBabyGo chapters and families in need across the world can share how-to manuals, connect with other FIRST Robotics teams, and share their success stories. The team celebrated the launch of GoBabyGo Connect by hosting nine FIRST Robotics Teams for a Variety KC GoBabyGo! community build. Together, we built and gave away 20 Frozen cars and one joystick-modified WildThing to children in need in a heartwarming event filled with smiles, tears, and even Buddy the Elf! We hope this inspires many partnerships between FIRST Robotics Teams and GoBabyGo! worldwide.

It’s our mission that every child be given the opportunity to move on their own, we really feel we can do this. There are thousands of high school students who participate in FIRST Robotics, who are all eager like we are to make an impact, and thousands of children in need. We are just creating a way for these groups to all get together, and giving them the tools to make it happen.

A BIG THANK YOU TO TEAMS:
3284 - Camdenton 4H Laser Team
1810 - Jaguar Robotics
5809 - The Jesubots
1806 - S.W.A.T
1984 - Jawas
5141 - PRIDE Robotics
1775 - Tigerbytes
1108 - Panther Robotics
as well as our friends from Notre Dame de Sion and Rockhurst University for attending the event and helping make the holidays special for so many families! Also, a BIG Thank you to Variety KC for sponsoring the event!

Please check out GBGConnect and get involved. If you have already worked with GoBabyGo, share your experiences, manuals, and expertise.

Bonus points if you can find Buddy the Elf in the picture!

Re: FIRST Teams Change Lives with GoBabyGo!

Thank you to the FIRST FRC Barstow Kuhnigits 1939 and coach Gavin Wood for sharing and expanding this exceptional program. This was a life changing moment for the recipients and their families, but likely more so for the FIRST FRC participants that volunteered to partake in the event. My students were so full of emotion after the event. We hope to stay in touch with Charlie, Demitrius, and Hudson and their families throughout the year and monitor their development using their new mobility vehicle.
It was an honor and privilege for LASER 3284 to part of the first ever FIRST FRC Go Baby Go build. We will be using the www.gbcconnect.org website to coordinate and get another Go Baby Go build event in central Missouri very soon.

Oh wow! Looks super cool. I just emailed them this morning, about possibly getting something started in our community, as it looks like there are no current programs in MI. Hopefully this will help us get started!

Looks like there was a build hosted by Eaton RESA in Charlotte, MI back in 2015 but I don't see any other builds in Michigan lately. Might be worth trying to contact them to see if they have any other info.

Some of the chapters are small and a little hard to find. That is one of the reasons we started gbgconnect. GoBabyGo is decentralized and that is cool, but it also creates communication problems sometimes. Keep us posted on your progress! Good luck and let us know if we can help!
