What should I do with myself week one?

Looking at FRC-Events my schedule is shaping up for next year.

Week 2 Northern Lights in Duluth (maybe Lake Superior)
Week 3 Great Northern in Grand Forks
Week 4 Probably Central Illinois in Peoria, but Pittsburgh and Iowa are in the running
Week 5 North Star in Minneapolis
Week 6 Seven Rivers in La Crosse
Week 7
Week 8 Probably Houston again
Week 9 Detroit

But what about week 1? Istanbul looks interesting, but there's the bi-directional jet lag. I love Montreal, but my 2 years of high school French is mostly oxidized dust on the floor. The FIM events aren't far from Detroit, that's a pretty quick flight. Palmetto or Orange county? Any new events popping up week one that aren't in the system yet?

Come on down to OC. Guaranteed no snow closer than the mountains, not sure the mountains will have any either.

I did volunteer at Escanaba a couple of years ago and will of course be at champs in Detroit. It is tempting, but almost feels like double dipping to go into DTW twice.

It's tempting and the airfare is competitive, but I have a pathological hatred of LAX. The venue looks interesting though.

So fly into Ontario International Airport...plenty of major carriers.

Try John Wayne (SNA). That would be the Orange County airport--Google Maps says probably 10-15 minutes from the venue. I actually got to Houston cheaper from there than it would have been from LAX a couple seasons back--and I'm pretty close to LAX.

Ontario (and Burbank) are operated by the same group that does LAX.

I fly out of SNA whenever I can. Almost zero traffic, shorter lines. Might be worth it even it it means a layover somewhere.

If you do Escanaba week 1 then you get to drive a nice straight line across the top of the US.

Re: What should I do with myself week one?

Alright then, Orange County it is. (Assuming the VC will have me.)

1 CAOC
2 MNDU2
3 NDGF
4 ILPE
5 MNMI2
6 WILA

8 CMPTX (maybe) ok, probably. Oh who am I kidding I'll be there.
9 CMPMI

Now to wait for volunteer registration to open for the events.

Except there is no Escanaba event this year, and the event that replaced it (Kingsford, near Iron Mountain) is week 3.
