It now shows 28 events and 526 teams. Lots of spots available for third plays. I wonder if we'll finally get to see some out-of-state teams come to MI.

edit: just realized 28 events includes MSC. Still, with or without that week 3 event there should be plenty of extra slots.

Re: Registration 2019

Current team count is 3783 (taking away the fake test team).

Rookies number from 7400-7854
But only 428 rookies are actually listed at events.

Not counting the 44 pre-qualified championship registrations...
  • 5 events: 1 team (a Regional team)
  • 4 events: 2 teams (one Regional team & one District team)
  • 3 events: 60 teams
  • 2 events: 1997 teams
  • 1 event : 1723 teams
Here are the Districts with a number of teams still only signed up for/assigned to one event:
GA ----- 5
Israel - 20
MAR --- 1
MI --- 247
NC ----- 1
NE ----- 8
ON ---- 22
PNW --- 1
TX ---- 33

Since 5955 event slots spoken for, that means overall ~57% are doing more than one event even before all those missing 2nd district event teams.

I am not really in-the-know, but it seems reasonable that FiM HQ will hold off on assigning more teams to 2nd events until they know if a 28th district event will be needed, and if so where it will be held (Gaylord?)

We can see 46 47 Michigan rookie teams now, and 528 533 visible FiM teams overall. If the latter figure grows beyond 540, then the extra event is needed.

San Diego (week 2) is local, Arizona North (3) is a bus trip, but the next three are flights. That's where it gets interesting, or probably insane.

a) If you don't hear from us at/after Houston, you'll know we didn't survive the stress.

b) In Hawaii last year, we ran into Grandville (MI) HS... who did two districts and a regional. With three robots, competing as 288, 216, and 244

c) Also in Hawaii, we ran into 1739, who broke their robot into components and packed them in suitcases.

I don't know what 1739 sacrificed to Rahm that their robot survived O'Hare's baggage operation. We're going to hedge our bets a bit more, and design mini-crates for components. I plan to talk to airlines over the next week to find out what the thresholds and limits are. (They should definitely fit through the portals the conveyor belts pass through!)

I'll take pictures.

54 Michigan rookie teams are now listed at the link above, as are 545 total Michigan FRC teams. A few events will have more than 40 teams, or FiM might add a 28th event.

Somewhat related—what API(s) are being used to pull all of this data? TBA?

I've been getting FiM data here. Mark has many methods, including his own historical data. Caleb and others might recommend some tricks also.

AFAIK TBA pulls its data directly from FIRST's API (aka the site you linked). So pulling data from TBA should give the same data.

Just to be clear, The FIRST API, frc-events, and the firstinspires.org find-an-event data all have slightly different "aging" characteristics. (I think team counts show up first on firstinspires.org, then the API end frc-events about the same time)

TBA pulls data from the FIRST API, however it's not instantaneous. (I believe events are updated around 2am Eastern time in most cases.) So TBA data may lag behind the FIRST API which may lag behind reality by some amount.

Re: Registration 2019

We're at a nice even 6000 event slots assigned to teams.
Just adding up the Registered column on this page: https://frc-events.firstinspires.org/2019/events
