We’re sometimes called “Morgantown Area RoboticS” since that’s where the team is based. This sign from an outreach event is definitely my favorite though.

Re: Team Name Mishaps

My former team is Team 4150, FRobotics. Over the years we've had a number of match alliance partners and MCs call us "F-Robotics" instead of "FRo-botics"... which is, to say the least, interesting.

"Physics Gears" is my favorite.

To be fair, our name is weird. But it's just pronounced 'Fixed Gears.'

When we were being announced during the Finals at UNH this year, the announcer said, “It’s Team 1518, Morpheus!”

Re: Team Name Mishaps

Few comments on emcees and game announcers:

Here's the way I train emcees to say team numbers:
3 digit: first number separate, next two together: "1" "18" 118
4 digit: first two number together, next two together: "20" "56" 2056
5 digit: first two numbers together, next three numbers separate: "14" "3" "1" "7" or first two numbers together, next number separate, next two together: "14" "3" "17" 14317

Certain exceptions apply like "2" "4" "6" "8" or "1" "1" "1" "1" "5" depending on experience and preference with the teams.

If you have a weird city or team name. Please go talk to the emcees and game announcers before qualifications start and let them know how to pronounce it. Most of us will be super cool and are more than willing to make some notes as long as you don't come up acting like a frantic jerk about it. A lot of competitions I tend to ask teams to make sure I have it right ahead of time but sometimes we miss it prior to the start of competition.

I am creating this thread for any other teams who go through something like this as well.
The irony of you starting this thread is that there's a typo -- "Michiagn" -- in your profile location.

Our name is Superior Roboworks, not Superior Robotics. Announcers keep alternating between the two.

P.S. Superior Robotics was a team in Superior, AZ.

Works most of the time, unless the Emcee has a long pause between the 2. At the NE Champs during Alliance selection, the #1 alliance of 195 and 319 were selecting the second partner. The emcee announced "58" with a pause before the "46". Needless to say we (Team 58) were very excited for a second and then sheepishly sank back into our seats.

We all had a good laugh about it afterwards.

Re: Team Name Mishaps

At 2018 Bayou we had 3946 Tiger Robotics, 4978 Tiger Robotics, and 6652 TigreRobotics. I don't know of any announcer mix ups, but there was plenty of confusion in the pits and stands.

294 is Beach Cities Robotics.
330 is Beach Bots.
At least they were at the same event.

Re: Team Name Mishaps

At Workds in 2017, the announcer on Curie kept calling our team “4261 Maverick Boiler Invasion” mixing our team (4272 Maverick Boiler Robotics) with a ream from our area (461 Westside Boiler Invasion)

Great announcer, but he said our name wrong for most of quals and all of elims

I find that funny. Even funnier is when they go add extra syllables... like car-a-mel.

This year was the first I've ever heard an announcer say our team name as 86-8. It was extremely unnerving.

Re: Team Name Mishaps

Mine isn't an issue with the announcer but in my own head.

In Arizona we have 6314 & 6413, which I get confused with every time they are on the field. When both are on the field together, the mental gymnastics I go through makes my FTAA laugh with the notes I end up putting in FTA Notepad to try to keep them straight.
