Re: 2019 Game Speculation

Apologies if this has been suggested before. Given the recent 60-year anniversary of NASA, it could be a NASA-inspired game.

This looks promising.

Maybe they could even get the word "space" in the name of the game!

Just saw one of these posted on FB, and the end of the URL is "fuel-the-mission". Yea, I'm sold. The game is about an ISRU.

I will take a rehash of Steamworks if it means we get another cheesy theme song from a very specific subculture.

Re: 2019 Game Speculation

I feel that this game will be like stronghold possibly with terrain but instead of balls maybe Frisbees "flying saucers". I wish FIRST would go back to an open field with fast driving and lots of defense like 2013-2014 but i do not see this happening because its been a while since we have had an open field. I also would like a ball game because I would like to build a turret. And I would also like to have a game were robots can be diverse like 2013 because your robot might be different than the ones on your alliance but you could still play an important role on the field.

The Wake County NC District event was in an ice hockey rink, if we had just gotten rid of the floor tiles then we could have done this

Re: 2019 Game Speculation

Every team is going to receive a Boeing CST-100 (and it's launch vehicle) in their KOP to launch them and their robot into space, where they will then have to orbit to and dock with stations located in geostationary orbits above each FRC field. Unfortunately, this means only 7 people can go up to the competition at a time, and only enough fuel for one trip is included in the KOP, but, never fear! More fuel, and replacement launch vehicles are available on is First choice

I'm suggesting something else. Many games, including Steamworks, had an "end game" condition, where there was a scoring opportunity only available in the final seconds of the match. I was talking about the possibility of a "middle game" condition, where there is a scoring opportunity available at a randomly generated time, some time during the match.

I got the idea when thinking about the teaser, with the idea that there was an "alert" condition, and maybe some sort of "all clear". However, I don't expect that sort of thing in this year's game. I just happened to come up with the idea.

I'm sure the GDC is always looking for new ways to develop novel challenges. End game conditions usually involve some mechanism that has to be deployed and/or used at a known time, and then the match is over. A "middle game" condition would be something that spontaneously appears, requires deployment and/or use of a special mechanism or scoring mode, and then resume scoring at the normal way. It's something that, as far as I know, hasn't been done before.

That's all the "details" I came up with. Just something to throw out there and see if it triggers some ideas in some other folks' heads.
