Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

More sizes of 32 DP gears (50t & 70t) and more pocketed gears would be a nice addition. More beveled gear options are very high on my list. Different sized shoulder bolts would be awesome and easy to do. Different sized colsons would be helpful. Also, I would like to see different sizes of versatubing, with 2” x 2” x .100” aluminum coming to mind. Lastly, a cheaper hex broach would really aid the community.

I am certain that such a switch would never be considered legal on a competition robot. If you wanted one on a practice or demo 'bot, you could easily wire it directly to the compressor.

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

Pivot brackets for pneumatic cylinders with 1" mounting hole spacing. Would line up much better with Versaframe etc.

A bumper bracket solution for the KOP chassis that does not use T-nuts and tolerates small amounts of misalignment. We finally made a good solution this year modifying the kit brackets but it still took us as much time as building our entire arm mechanism since we don't have a press or mill to bang out brackets with. Include it in the KOP if you want to receive chocolates from every RI in FRC.

A VRM and PCM with larger terminal openings.

Canifier with a thermal probe could do this easily enough. You need to write a bit of code to do it but shouldn’t be difficult.

Take a look at our website and our team resources tab. You may find what you are looking for with the talons. We have been using these for the last two years and order new boards each year (per the rules). The only issue we have had for failures is if the students do not use the two hex bolts to tie down the PCB board. The zip file will take you to the BOM, descriptions and files needed to have these boards produced.

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

A consistent source for 32DP pinions for 500-series motors. Being on back order 11 months of the year doesn’t count.

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

I'd like to see a return to 1" linear spacing on mounting holes for whatever components come out, and brackets that would translate current products to a 1" spacing.

Also, I'd like to note that the OP had a very interesting first ever post. Welcome to CD!

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

I'll add my voice to those requesting integrated encoders and other doodads (ratchet, for example) for the AndyMark 57 Sport gearboxes. The reason we chose to run Versas exclusively this year was simply that we could add more functionality to them. I'm glad to hear that the 57s are impressive; I'd like to try them next season.

My team is likely moving away from shifting gearboxes for the drive base due to expense (for two or three robots), weight, space, and simply because the more we think about it, the less it seems necessary to shift in order to play most games at a high level. I really like WCP's SS boxes, and wouldn't mind seeing other companies come out with a competitive product.

Re: What COTS parts would you like to see?

Some sort of plastic extrusion with a hex bore would be nice for making custom hubs quickly. Currently we use McMaster 8705K49, but broaching is annoying and it takes a long time for a simple part.

A three inch option for a compliant wheel would be cool. We used some 2 7/8 banebots this year that ended up being a really convenient size, but they could have done with a little more squishy grip.

+1 for 2'' mecanums with hex bore.

I'm curious, what does the WCP SS offer that the EVO Slim doesn't? (I can think of a couple things, but I'm also 200% stirring the pot here.)

We bought them and had them shipped the next day.

There is a place in Cambridge as well if thats a more convenient location for your team.

Biggest thing would be its not WCD compatible out of the box and its heavy running steel gears vs 7075 gears that vex/wcp offers.

Evo slim for AM14U3, WCP-SS for any WCD due to the option to have sprockets inside the gearbox itself.
