Re: Requesting Any and All Smoked Motors

We may have two smoked BAG motors that fell victim to misassembled VersaPlanetaries. I will have to look around at our next meeting, since they may have been tossed.

Re: Requesting Any and All Smoked Motors

Sorry, but we've taken to tossing our smoked motors, as no matter how we mark or segregate them, bad items work their way back onto robots. If we smoke any in the next few months, I'll send them along!

I'm also going to see if you can reliably estimate the armature temperature of motors by measuring their resistance (at least prior to smoking the insulation). I'm planning a white paper in the fall.

Re: Requesting Any and All Smoked Motors

AndyMark has a bin of scrap motors. Reasons for a motor to be in there include but are not limited to: smoked, shaft bent, crooked pinion, cracked magnet, testing under water, testing at 48v, or any RMA we can't sell. Problem is I have no idea what's what... Also plenty of them are in various states of disassembly because we are also curious folk. If any of these interest you I can PM you pictures and we can work out shipping. We would gladly forfeit a few dollars in scrap value for more information in the community.

Betting they just wanted to see what would happen at quadruple voltage, see also "we are also curious folk". In order to do that in FRC you'd have to send 4 lines from the PDB to the motor in series, or two from a custom circuit that could do 24V. Either way that would be an illegal setup.

That being said... FRC isn't the only customer of AndyMark. Could be somebody else decided to try using a 12V motor at 48V.

Just some Friday afternoon shenanigans in the ME office. I don't think we wrote any of the results down, so I can't call it science. The motors were already scrap when we started though.
