I wouldn't say that.

HQ is known to have at least a few folks who read Chief Delphi on a regular basis (and, on occasion, respond, though not through Chief Delphi). The GDC, in long-past years, has actively solicited suggestions from Chief Delphi--some of which, with major or minor tweaking, have cropped up as the game.

I try to be very careful what devious suggestions I put out there--the GDC is watching, and while I'd love it if they picked up one of mine I'd rather it not be the one about tech fouls being ten times the current non-zero event low score rather than a set value.

I'm still lobbying for FIRST Traffic Jam 2019 (traffic cones as the primary game piece)...Oh, wait, wrong thread.

Re: 2018 Game Speculation

I haven't read through all the "new" replies recently but...

I'm hinging my bets on a tube game. There has been too many ball and unique game pieces (frisbees, totes, gears) recently. Also we will see a return of tall robots in 2018.

Full disclosure: I predict a tube game almost every year. I'm bound to be right eventually.

My bet is that next year we have a game piece called a "bit" or a "byte." Probably bit because it sounds better.

Based on the CRT effect at the end, I was thinking it would be video game themed.

Reset just posted this: https://www.facebook.com/ResetRoboti...60331328 3380

They had a couple game teasers last year. I wonder if this is one? I think a first staff member works with the team.

Specifically FIRST uses an 8-bit art style before the CRT Effect. This could mean a number of things, 8-bit is a popular art style revolving around older video games, 8-bit could also reference binary or a type of other programming.

Going back to the 8-bit art, it can also be called pixel art, it's primarily used to display 3D seeming objects in a 2D format, though it was highly pixelated due to the much lower resolution of digital images.

As for the ^ above mentioned Reset Robotics, I believe that they were referencing the upcoming Spielberg Movie called "Ready Player One". Even still cool concept, but I highly doubt that they have any direct correlation.

Re: 2018 Game Speculation

I'm thinking the game will have tile-like game pieces that Robots will have to pick up and then place to create either a pattern or image.

For some reason I feel like this game would be called Pixel Panic.

I wish there is a like button for posts. I would definitely like this post. Although I think it would be a great game, I do not believe it would be 2018's game; but only time would tell.

There is sorta something like this. Near the top right of every comment there is the scale thing, you can click on this then positively rate someone comment. This action gives them reputation points which are those little green dots that you see on every comment.

Re: 2018 Game Speculation

I hope that penalties this year might be robot disablement rather than penalty points, it would make a contribution to the final score and it would be similar to the NFL or NHL where penalties help the opposing team but don't give them free points.

Idk if that would go over too well in FRC. In the NHL when a player is given a penalty they are removed from the field. This is not the case with FRC so that disabled robot could actually be doing more harm to the opposing alliance than good by blocking some entrance where it got the penalty. Also we've all seen how mad people can get about penalties after the match, how mad do you think people will get if their robot was disabled when they are still full of adrenaline in the middle of the match, my bet would be very mad. If the penalty isn't clear some drive teams could start yelling some less than desirable things to hear shouted out at an FRC event.
