Could we please have a (design & code) release sub-forum?

Could we please get a sub forum for design & code release?
Or a stickied thread?

As linked above (yes, even the jokes) every pre-build season there seems to be lots of threads being started all over without any discussion. It would be nice if there was a spot for all of it to land.

Then, when the madness starts tomorrow, they won't be buried under more threads.

For the sake of CD, yes! This is definitely getting out of hand. A stickied thread could probably work and would provide a nice, centralized place to see everyone's stuff. Maybe a thread for every year or something?

No no, the intent of R14 is clear (as has been pointed out to me in several threads now) and it clearly is meant such that all of this unmaintainable madness should not be constrained, contained, or otherwise limited. SHARE EVERYTHING!

That's fine, if CD has to be the place then I want a dumping ground that's not general forum or programming.

I agree, we wouldn't want to limit the sheer artistic genius of Team 900 and Team 2898

Just to make a point. You can just as easily add your stuff to the FIRST wiki and you're covered. A lot less spam that way...

Re: Could we please have a (design & code) release sub-forum?

I really like this idea. CD is a complete mess right now, and I think cleaning up the Release threads would help a lot for organization and searchability. I've been here for awhile so I can kind of make sense of it, but for a rookie or someone who hasn't been here, I think it could just seem like an unhelpful, uninviting place that's impossible to search well and where every thread gets derailed by people who thing they're funny.

Re: Could we please have a (design & code) release sub-forum?

If code exists publicly on GitHub it probably already fits R14. If you did something really interesting in your code and want to take time to explain how I could use similar things next year then go for it, make a post, but if you're just linking to your GitHub in my mind it's spam.

Re: Could we please have a (design & code) release sub-forum?

Maybe we create a google doc/spreadsheet with a google form to submit a github/code link? (Maybe even add a CD username box) That way to find (x)teams code its just search a spreadsheet.

This was attempted several times. One of the best (and relatively up-to-date) version is on FIRSTwiki. You can add your team's code by updating the corresponding file on GitHub and submitting a pull request.

There really is one of these for everything:

I'm NOT saying it is a bad thought or a bad idea but the Git implementation of a wiki leaves much to be desired in terms of usability by a multitude of users.

No worse than ever before.

I think it has to do with how one uses a vBulletin forum:
  • If you want to find something, including to see if there's anything already written on a topic, use Search.
  • If you just want to browse what's been written since last visit, use "new posts".
I very rarely use anything else.
