I think the official standings are up:

I think my commentary in the previous post was correct.

I think my commentary in the previous post was correct.
Yes, those went up last night. We jumped the gun a little Saturday evening and then had to pull them back - the Heartland Regional ran through Sunday, and we needed to wait for 3184 to finish earning points before we posted results for week 2. We added in some checks* in the rankings generation app to alert us if an event hasn't ended yet so we don't post early again!

Speaking of posting... it looks like we have MN teams playing for the first time every week this season. So we'll be updating every weekend, and we won't have the final standings until the Seven Rivers Regional has completed.

* The following automated validation was added:

- an error if an event is still in progress (start date < today's date < end date)
- a warning if an event is ending the day the rankings are run (today's date = end date)
- an error if alliance selection hasn't occurred yet (The FIRST API reports team numbers for each alliance as "0" before alliance selection is posted)
- an error if the number of playoff matches posted isn't high enough (minimum of 8 for quarters, 4 for semis, and 2 for finals, so we're looking for at least 14 matches)
- an error if the Chairman's Award hasn't been posted (it's the last award given at any event)

We have the ability to override any of these warnings or errors easily enough, but they'll at least force us to stop and evaluate what's going on with that event before we proceed!

Re: MN State Championship 2018

Right now there are a few teams that I'm really disappointed won't be at the State Championship. 4198 and 2526 in particular are such strong teams and I'm sure they would've done very well at the State Championship. There are many other teams that I expect to improve significantly at their second event that will join the list of teams that make me sad they won't be at the event.

Re: MN State Championship 2018

So eyeballing the week 4 results...
There were a dozen teams added to rankings this week between the Iowa and Wisconsin regionals.

Team 5914 appears to be high scorer getting 31 points (9 for 46th, 2 for draft position, and 20 for elimination round bonuses). That will put them right in the middle of the bubble area although they will have the tie breaker advantage. Again - check the official standings when they become available.

Re: MN State Championship 2018

Eyeballing the results from the big double Minneapolis regionals.....

Easily in: 2177, 1816, 2225, 5278, 3244, 3038.

I think 3871 is at 29 or 30 and just outside of the top 36.

When the official standings are released I believe you will see:
33rd: 2977 - 33 points
34th: 3926 - 32 points
35th: 5914 - 31 points
36th: 6044 - 31 points

There are 3 teams to be added at 7 Rivers in week 6.
Also looming large is whether 2169 can bring home a chairman's win and the automatic bid that comes with it.

There may be a slight delay this week. Unfortunately, one of our MN teams dropped Medtronic Foundation earlier this week, and it was their only event for the season. The FIRST API is still reporting the team as a 2018 team (and I'm guessing it will continue to, since they got a KoP and all of that), but isn't returning any events for them - a condition our app wasn't anticipating. We need to determine how to handle this situation on the rankings (Do we show them at 0 points and no event? Do we drop them off completely?) so we can update the app.

Obviously, teams are anxious to see where they sit on the rankings, so we're making getting this issue resolved and the rankings out a top priority (Otherwise, I would be asleep by now!).

For what it's worth for those reading this thread, I see nothing wrong with your analysis.

Re: MN State Championship 2018

So are points calculated?

Rank Chart points (9th) = 18
plus
Final Alliance (17-8 for 8th) = 9
plus
Quarters finals matches won and advanced (2 x 5) = 10
plus
Semi finals matches won and advanced (2 x 5) = 10
plus
each Awards 5

Both 1816 and 2177 won the Chairman's Award at their second regionals. From what I understand, that will still qualify them for MNCMP.

Re: MN State Championship 2018

What do 5913, 3082, 3026, 3840, 2823, 3102, 5690, 3883, 5434, 2169*, 4198, and 2526 have in common?

They're all highly competitive MN teams that improved their performance at their 2nd event, but won't be at the State Championship. Very disappointing that these great teams will be missing out.

On the other hand, I think the level of play in the Playoffs at State will rival the level of play in Division Playoffs at Champs. The probable winning alliance of 5172-4539-XXXX is an alliance that would be scary on Einstein.

*2169 can still qualify by winning CA at 7 Rivers

2169 hasn't had a second event to improve at yet. We'll have yet to see if they do improve

I'd also add 4536 to that list as well. I was convinced they were going to bring home their first blue banner at Medtronic after 3 Regional Finalist appearances.

Nitpicks aside, though, I have to echo your point about the level of competition coming out of MN this year. I think this year is the most competitive Minnesota has ever been. Usually there are a just a couple teams I think have a serious shot at Einstein or late subdivision elimination play, but this year I think there are quite a handful I would at least consider placing money on to get to at least subdivision finals.

Can't wait to get back to MN in time for State Champs. It should be an exciting event, even with a few top teams missing.
