Re: Ideas for Cheesy Arena 2018

I love the idea of the alliance selection screen, but I think it should be in this order:

1 2 3 4
8 7 6 5

So it is easy to say who you would be facing in quarters.

Re: Ideas for Cheesy Arena 2018

Thanks everyone for your ideas so far. To summarize, here are the changes that we will endeavor to make, in rough priority order:
  • A-stop
  • New sound effects, and different ones for each power up type
  • Just played/active/queued power ups on audience display
  • Better alliance selection screen, as mocked up
  • Option for reversing alliances on the audience display on a per-instance basis (though Chezy Champs would *never* put a camera on the scoring table side)
  • Leave scale/switch LEDs on solid for a few seconds post-match
  • Avatars
  • Mobile-optimized web page with FTA Notebook features
  • Screen for indicating cycle time / other information valuable to reset/queuers

Any suggestions on the switch/scale LED patterns (for randomization, owned, not owned, boosted, forced, etc.)? We don't plan to have ownership indicators on the audience overlay since they take up a lot of real estate, so it should ideally be very clear at all times from the full-field camera view.

I don’t know how possible this could be, but it would be cool to have on board footage of the robots. Perhaps have rotating onboard feeds at the bottom of the screen where other camera feeds would be?

I don't see any advantage to changing them from the regular season, except maybe a faster pulse for ownership or an indicator that a Boost or Force is ending. (The latter goes double if there's no on-screen timer for them.)

This one made me pause. I was very reliant on the overlay to keep track of ownership this year. With the small amount of travel on the Switches and the ambiguity of the Scale position as seen through the typical center aimed camera angle, it was hard to determine ownership by a quick glance at the field when it wasn't entirely obvious due to volume of cubes. I'm not sure that using the LEDs will be a great solution, especially since the Scale LEDs haven't been very visible to the camera ever since they moved them from the plates to the Outriggers.

Perhaps there's a way you make the ownership indicators take up less space on the audience overlay?

Yeah the ownership indicators were absolutely critical for our drive team. We trained them to be able to make split second predictions about scores by looking at the current state of ownership as displayed.

In that case, we can probably find a way to include them without taking up too much additional space.
