A suggestion - instead of a scale and switch indicator for both alliances, have one scale and one switch indicator, where the scale highlights red or blue for the color alliance that owns it, and the switch is either red for red owns both, blue for blue owns both, or half red half blue for the split. It'll at least cut trees original by half.

Or take out the switch/scale logos entirely and use dots on the red and blue score blocks a la assists in 2014. A little less intitutive, but it gets the job done.

Here's the basic concept I was envisioning.

Something like this is very minimal and can be sized appropriately with the rest of the overlay. Someone more talented than me could add some equally minimal artwork to help with intuitiveness if deemed necessary.

Not sure what y'alls target amount of space for the Overlay is but you could just extend it out a bit and put small indicators off to the right. Just out of the way to where it's not distracting but it's there for use if need-be.

My idea would be to have 3 icons over to the right. Two Switches with a scale sandwiched in the middle. The Switches highlighted red/blue respectively to indicate which is representing what. Next to each icon you can have a box. For the Switches you can have them checked or Xed to show ownership. And the Scale you just color the box for whomever has ownership of that.

Be aware that having the scale lights go off at T=0 is a useful cue for referees scoring the endgame. It's rather difficult to watch the arena timer at the same time as watching a robot trying to climb, but the scale lights are at least in the same direction.

You may want to just have a few lights on each side stay on and most of them go off, or be sure to blink the lights somehow at T=0, or otherwise provide a visual cue for referees for the moment when they're supposed to be assessing the endgame status.

Re: Ideas for Cheesy Arena 2018

Whenever an announcer announces 254 The Cheezy Poofs in the backgrounds the clip of Lavar Ball saying I'm undeafeated never lost has to play and Lavar has to be there icon until they lose (if they do).
They need to update the end screen to have 254,148, and 2976 on one side the red alliance and 2767, 27, and 4027 on the other side. Also the Cheezy Poofs need to play in the second match because the Cheezy Poofs record. Einsteins 2:53-0 QF 2:54-0. Also the launching penlties need to be nerfed to just it is illegal to launch at another robot and it is illegal to launch out of the playing field. Also if a cube is launched outside the playing field the human players can run and try to retreive it and leave the vault to bring it to there alliances vault.

These aren't Cheesy Arena items, those are items for your event's rules committee. Each offseason has its own minor tweaks they like to try.

For the second one, there are some safety considerations that I think you need to think about--like the chance of another cube flying out, or running HPs, or (worst case scenario) two running HPs run into each other headfirst and both get hit by another launched cube.

For the first one... there's various methods of dealing with that. Had an event out here about a month ago that had it so the launching penalty was only enforced if the cube left the field. Not a single cube ever left the field by robot action. Personally I'd go with any launch over 30' or outside the field gets the penalty (1/2 the length of the field, or the entire width).

Re: Ideas for Cheesy Arena 2018

In the qualifications overlay, you should put a team's current ranking next to their team number.
