Where are you seeing specs on the integrated encoder?

Stronghold is a good example. You might have had a string that looked like:

ACEBF 00120 BADCE 02210

Where the letters represent the defense configuration and the digits represent the current crossing state, for both alliances.

Full disclosure: I was involved in developing the Dynamo, many years ago. The Greendrive doc is here: (see p. 43)

http://www.hurst-motors.com/documents/TDE1006.pdf

The Dynamo version that will be available for FRC teams might not include the Pin 4,5 encoder; in that case, the Pin 1 tacho signal (15 PPR) will be available.

Physically, it looks solid. That said, that is a LOT of mass for ~35 watts of power!

So, which encoder output did we get? Single pulse or Quadrature?

No encoder output.
The DIO line is a DIO-generated PWM signal sent to the motor.
The PWM line just Enables the motor control.

What about pin #1? It's shown as blank on the FIRST documentation, but on the hurst documentation it's listed as a tachometer output included in all models.

Haven't probed the unused pins in the wiring harness yet to see what else might be live.
The DIO connection provided by the harness is for control only.

Here's a video of the motor running.

Thanks for the video, Mark. Looks good!

I can confirm that teams can purchase the crimp terminal that fits the harness connector housing (terminal is Molex 16-02-0103), and connect the Pin 1 Tachometer to a digital I/O. Nidec's product manager is preparing a FIRST specific version of the Dynamo manual, and expects to release that soon.

I hate to poo-poo FIRST's first step into brushless, but a low output high weight model without an encoder isn't very promising compared to our other options.
