Question Use of two-way wireless communication

Is it within the rules for the driver and the human player operating the portal to be using some form of communication such as a cell phone or radio? I did not see anything specifically forbidding it in the rules when I read them but I very well could have missed it.

I am aware that the new position, the technician I believe it is called, cannot have any form of communication with anyone.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Re: Use of two-way wireless communication

Open the rules, press cntrl-f, and type 'wireless' in the find window. Click the arrow to move to the next occurance of wireless in the rules till you find it. It's about the 4th occurance in.

It's against the rules to have cellphones, walkie-talkies, or headsets to communicate between drive team members during matches. However, hand signals are allowed. Check out section 7.6, rule H07.

H02, H07, AND E06 shoot down walkie-talkies; H02 and H07 take down cell phones.

Note, however, H07B. Wouldn't be a stretch to have a reasonably-sized sign with, say, red/green sides, or somesuch device...

I guess you could wear a wired headset, as long as the wire didn't touch the ground. Not sure what that gets you

You would have to convince the referee that it was a non powered signalling device. (It has to be on the list of allowed devices) It up to you to prove it, not the referee to disprove it.

Re: Use of two-way wireless communication

From H07:
Regardless if equipment fits criteria below, it may not be employed in a way that breaks any other rules, introduces a safety hazard (e.g. a step stool or large signaling device in the confined space of the PORTAL are safety concerns),[...]

Anybody want to guess where I'm going with this one?

(60+-foot wire = tripping hazard if you don't do it just right, and you probably don't have time to do it just right.)

It gets us....tin can and string telephones!

Just gotta figure out how to string it over the entire field somehow...but no challenge is too great for an FRC student who has found a loophole

Re: Use of two-way wireless communication

Keeping the string tight would be an interesting problem. You really don't want to bother over worked referees and FTA's with this though. As Eric said. They will just hit you with the safety stick.

Actually you just need to find empaths for your drive team.

Re: Use of two-way wireless communication

Actually update 2 pulled out the safety stick. You not allowed to bring things into the Arcade that connect allaince members.
