Inspection Video 2018

The GreenHorns teamed up with Lead Robot Inspector Jon Stratis to produce a video of the robot inspection process. I found the video to be really informative and educational even though I've been a Robot Inspector myself for 3 years. Definitely worth checking out and passing on to your local rookie teams!

Inspection Video 2018

I apologize for the poor audio quality at some points throughout the video. Blame Samsung.

Now I'm sitting here hoping I didn't screw any of that inspection up Only 4 days to learn the rules is not much time!

I'm so glad I went last year, and not this year. You'll have to pass on any feedback to Katie to bring back to me

Re: Inspection Video 2018

This is a really great service to the community, all! This would have been hugely valuable to us as a rookie team.

Beginning the season with inspection in mind and being able to have a look into what the process would be like will go a long way to prepare new teams and take away some of the stress and uncertainty around inspection.

Re: Inspection Video 2018

Just a reminder that there are additional rules regarding bumpers that are some of the most common inspection issues I have personally seen. In particular, R32 always seems to give teams a hard time. If you are doing a WCD, make sure that you have no more than 8 inches between your bumper supports. If you are going with corner bumpers make sure that there is not a gap greater than 0.25" between your bumpers and backing material. This normally occurs when the corner joint is not perfectly square.

Quote:
R32. BUMPERS must be supported by the structure/frame of the ROBOT (see Figure 8-8). To be considered supported, a minimum of 1⁄2 in. (~12.7 mm) at each end of each BUMPER wood segment must be backed by the FRAME PERIMETER. “Ends” exclude hard BUMPER parts which extend past the FRAME PERIMETER permitted by R30, part B. Additionally, any gap between the backing material and the frame:
A. must not be greater than 1⁄4 in. (~6 mm) deep, or
B. not more than 8 in. (~20 cm) wide
At the end of the day, make sure to go over all of the rules! I definitely recommend doing a "mock" inspection before bag day where you go through the entire inspection checklist with your robot. That way when you get to inspection there will be no surprises

Re: Inspection Video 2018

Another note is that the tops of the bumpers can now be 7.5" off the ground, not 7" as stated in the video. The rule was changed shortly after I uploaded the video.

Good points! It's pretty much impossible to hit every rule when going through a video like this on a single robot Everyone should be going through the rules themselves as they build, and do their own pre-inspection before they bag!
