2018 Spartan Series

On behalf of Team 971, Spartan Robotics, I am pleased to invite your team to attend our second annual Spartan Series! On August 11th, from 12:30pm - 5:30pm at Mountain View High School, mentors and students of our team will be hosting lectures and workshops with the goal of sharing knowledge 971 has accumulated over the years with others.

We apologize that this has come at such a short notice, but still hope that you can join us on this day!

Our mentors and students have prepared presentations for the Series. The workshops this year are broken down into three categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Beginner workshops are for people who have had no prior experience -- everyone is welcome! Intermediate workshops are for people who have participated in at least one season of FIRST, and have basic understanding of FIRST terminology. Advanced workshops are for people who have previous knowledge on the subject. These categories are just guidelines, but are there to help you get the most out of every workshop you attend!

These are the presentations we are offering this year:

Beginner Presentations:
An Overview of 971ís 2018 Robot: Sabina Davis & Annie Wang
Building Effective Team Leadership: Nick Crispie
Creativity and Innovation in the World of Engineering: Aren Hill
FRC Pneumatics: Components and Design: Suneel Freimuth
The Regional Chairmanís Award: A Three Part Saga: Megan Guttieri

Intermediate Presentations:
Intersection of Electronics, Programming, and Design: Brian Silverman
Selecting Gear Ratios to Build More Robust Robots: Nick Crispie
971 CAD (Complex, Accessible, Detail Oriented): Annie Wang
971ís Sustainability Practices: Wyn Schuh

Advanced Presentations:
Control System Modeling: Austin Schuh
Mechanical Design for Controllability: Travis Schuh
Test Driven Development: Austin Schuh
The Physics and Math Behind Motors and Motor Controllers: Brian Silverman

You can check out the full descriptions here.

The workshop schedule is also on the second page of the workshops list. Keep in mind that certain workshops, such as Design for Controllability, Test Driven Development, and Building Effective Team Leadership are two sessions long. These workshops are normally very popular. While you may be able to attend both Design for Controllability and Test Driven Development, you will be unable to attend any other workshops.

If you are unable to make it to the Spartan Series but are still interested in some of the presentations, all the presentations that are new to the 2018 Series will be filmed and posted online after the event. The ones that were given last year have already been filmed and can be found at the link here.

If your team attends we ask that you bring at most 15 members and RSVP through this google form by August 9th. You can share the google form directly with your team. We will do our best to publish every presentation that is new to the 2018 Series, so most of them will also be available afterward on our Youtube channel. The sooner members register, the sooner we can see if we have space for additional attendees.

I will send more information about directions, parking, and logistics closer to August 11th.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me (Annie) at annie.wang.1049@gmail.com

We hope to see you there!
