That's what people are trying to do a significant part of the time--people that really know point themselves and their watchers to TBA instead. That's not a good look on the official site.

About half of all FiM teams are still waiting to find out which second event they will be assigned, and only a handful already have a third play. Now that the Jackson event is confirmed, FiM HQ can start filling out schedules for events and teams. Busy times just ahead for FiM HQ, and then for teams who still need to plan travel to second and/or third events.

I talked with Tom Nader while we were both at the Coloma FTC event last weekend. He says FiM has enough fields to support five events per week; however, it is a logistical challenge to trailer them all where and when they are needed. Back during my time as an FTA, I recall that all of FRC held just five events per week, and was supported by a similar number of fields. Logistics was a challenge then, too. But it was handled differently and cost a lot more.

That fills about 90% of team slots. There are still more than 70 teams that only have one event assignment. About half of the open spots are in Week 5. Many Michigan schools take that week for spring break.

Re: Registration 2019

I've always had a mental image that a recession would impact team growth Looking at the chart you can see some impact on 2010 but not what I'd expect.

Re: Registration 2019

2009 did have the lowest veteran retention rate of any year since 2005 (which was a bad year for FRC growth), but it was only a 1% drop over surrounding years.
2010 had a 4% drop in growth over 2009, as the recession effects propagated, and 2011 bounced back with a 6.6% gain in growth over 2010.
(2009-11.7%, 2010-7.8%, 2011-14.2%)

It might be a reflection and indication of how many teams are driven by district school budgets rather than by sponsor budget cuts.
I'd expect recessions aren't reflected through district budgets except over longer periods of time, usually by not raising school taxes in outer years.

If a team gets it's core support from a school district, e.g., basic registration but robot/travel/extra event budgets come from sponsors, then maybe that's enough to keep a basic team going through austerity cuts.
That might be reflected in cutbacks for extra events/travel/mentor hours.

Maybe everyone has sustainability plans in place...

Don't know though. I looked at it at the time, but I don't remember what I found or where my notes on it are.

Re: Registration 2019

What year was the Ontario teachers' labor dispute when teachers weren't doing extra-curricular events? How much of an effect did that have?

That was 2013

28 Ontario veteran teams dropped that season, and I assume some unknown number of pre-rookies didn't matriculate.
11 of those came back in 2014
2 more of them returned in 2015

It dropped the FRC growth rate about 1%
Oddly enough the FRC veteran team retention rate was still the highest that year that it had ever been up until that point (we've had higher retention rates than 2013 since 2015).

Re: Registration 2019

5.4% (+196) FRC Growth is a bit stunted this year.
It's about two thirds of last year's growth 9.3% (+311).

1% fewer new teams than last year.
12.2% (470) new teams vs 13.2% (483) last year

Higher veteran dropout rate (accounting for resurrected veterans)
Team retention: 2019: 92.5% compared to 2018: 94.9%

This is really well done. What's the best way to get this information?
