We're working on googling the lottery to clear the tubes to get all the pages through to you! If you don't see them by noon tomorrow shoot us an email and we'll look into what's going on with that.

Sooooo
Why is everybody worried about fashion? I'm thinking about that tank tread product release. Last time they did tank treads there was strong hold and barriers. Our team gave up on swerve and we designed a tank tread drive base. Time to look up that old cad and think what improvements we can incorporate. Materials, manufacturing time line etc. I did like that tank drive base. Lot's to think about. Hummmm, NeoTank?

Tank treads, roller intakes, stronger elevator brackets, the constant mention of how compliant wheels can be used in shooters - all signs are pointing to 2019 being Stronghold part 2: Deep Space Boogaloo.

Re: AndyMark Winter Product Launch - December 6th 2018

The interesting thing to look at is the approach angle in the layout PDF of the raptor tracks versus rhino tracks. The raptor are 12* where the rhino tracks are ~35*, implying it may not be as tall of obstacles as 2016, but could be objects that involve dips such as the mote used in 2016.

Not to mention the new 8 inch pneumatic tires with aluminum 0.5 hex wheels, 2016 X 2?

Re: AndyMark Winter Product Launch - December 6th 2018

Seriously stop. AndyMark would not release such things if they new they would be keys to the game. FIRST would have a fit and AM would be jeopardizing their relationship with FIRST.

The rhino drive was just a coincidence. I know that they had been working on it long before the game committee would have had Stronghold fleshed out.

I'm not saying a few might know a little something because of specific KOP requirements or game piece production but I seriously doubt any of them know any real details.

Raptor track may just be my new favorite COTS drivetrain. And here I was thinking WCP 8wd couldn’t be beat

This season, as a trial of a new approach in this modern FRC era, we selected three distributors popular with the FRC community - AndyMark, REV Robotics, and VEX - and lifted the flap 'a little' on the game before Kickoff. [...]

All three distributors heard the same information under this trial and around the same time (disclosure happened in late September and early October). They were given general information such as that the robots would be driving over obstacles, climbing, and throwing game objects.
This doesn't directly say that this caused AM to make the Rhino, but it's certainly one heck of a coincidence that it launched with Stronghold, and a bunch of COTS elevators came out this year.

I'll just offer this...

Andy and co are savy business owners. I heard multiple times during the stream both Andy and his team mention things like ROI, "the market" and other verbiage around how to run a business efficiently. They aren't making random products that they roll the dice on...

With how low the adoption of track drives is in FRC, they're either counting on 1. A new, innovative and successful design (like Raptor Track Drive) to turn the tide against many years of history or 2. A game that lends itself to a track drive being beneficial (ala 2016). I'm not saying this is a wholesale clue to what the game is, I'm just pointing out what it looks like from my perspective.

Congrats Andy and team on another big launch!

I suspect you are right about them counting on treads being useful at some point in the future. However, they came out in the past and specifically said that the Rhino tracks and Stronghold were a coincidence and nothing more. Considering Andy's sterling reputation I have no reason to doubt them.

I'm a little surprised that no one is talking about the improved 775. I suppose the Neo announcement overshadowed it, but I'm excited about the additional power. Our team already knows that we won't be using Neos this year - we still don't have the libraries, motor curves, or any real information about the motors. And I'm not doing validation and testing over the Christmas holiday. So a little extra power in our favorite motor is a very nice Christmas surprise and I'm looking forward to using them.

Of course, the motor's thermal mass doesn't change either, so the temperature rise will be faster when you stall them.
