periodic loss of communication

Should have worked on this earlier, but we had bigger problems...

We are having trouble with the driver station-to-robot communication. We get periodic errors: "FRC: The Driver Station has lost communication with the robot." This happens with a fairly consistent period of approximately 10 seconds, and happens whether the robot is disabled or enabled.

Sometimes, we'll also get messages about ping status changing. The radio ping (.1) will go from good to bad and back. When I try pinging the radio from a command prompt, most of the time I get a nice <1msec time, but every once in a while there is a longer one: 545msec, or 950msec. I haven't been able to determine if that is correlated to the error messages, but it seems suspicious.

It does seem related to wireless:
PC to roboRIO over USB does not have trouble.
PC to radio/bridge connected by ethernet does not have trouble, either.

We have attempted to reduce outside interference, but haven't been able to turn off every Wi-Fi router in range at the school. Also, the Win 10 firewall is turned off.

It seems that we've isolated the problem somewhat, but I still don't know what would be causing it. Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks,
Rod

Re: periodic loss of communication

Look for third-party background tasks that may be periodically attempting to take over the wireless to search for software updates.
That's a pretty common cause of something like this.

You can check the DS Log to see if there is a very regular time period to these dropouts.
