Well, I think we are all forgetting about the BMX Bikes.
Possibly a game related to performing different stunts and tricks

Of course, if they're going along a "timeline" it's only a matter of time before we have a cyberpunk theme.

Any Thoughts?

Note: To me it looks like classic sci fi, kind of like Metropolis. The sun behind its head gives an egyptian feel as well.

Edit: Juts a note, early on it had tentacles coming out of it.

Edit 2: Squonk is the name of the band. Here are a few more photos:

To me it looks like either a sci-fi theme (like others have said) or maybe a futuristic theme?

so....with the many suggestions out there...solar...wind....and whatnot.
I feel it will be solar powered airboats....or even hovercraft.....kicking footballs. This incorporates the ever present thought of a water game and football....

I completely agree the band is a hint. Pair up the band theory with the music group, Squonk, that also appeared at champs. Stated by the wikipedia article about the mythical creature:

The "scientific name" of the squonk, Lacrimacorpus dissolvens, comes from Latin words meaning "tear", "body", and "dissolve".[1]

"Dissolve" is what really catches my eye. That is a term used in chemistry, which also happened to be the theme the band before finals dressed up in. 2018 also happens to be the "Big Ball" game (according to FIRST Game Theory) I am calling it, a mad scientist/chemistry surrounded game that uses balls as "ingredients" in a chemical mixture. Maybe shoot in a specific amount of balls to get a "reaction" to achieve 1 RP? That's just a theory....a FIRST theory!

Re: 2018 FRC Game Hint Released

I was thinking like an Electrical Revolution themed game.

Reasoning
1. It fits the timeline: Stronghold(15th century) -> Steamworks(19th century/First Industrial Revolution) -> Electrical Revolution/The Second Industrial Revolution(late-19 to early-20th century)
2. One of the pics showed an Cup Anemometer and Neck-frills that resembles the Sun: Wind and Solar Energy

Conclusion:
Electrical Revolution or Clean Energy-themed

On wikipedia it states:

"There have been other times that have been called "second industrial revolution". Industrial revolutions may be renumbered by taking earlier developments, such as the rise of medieval technology in the 12th century"

This statement proves my timeline theory
Adding on to my previous theory; I believe 2018's game is 87% going to be electrical revolution.

In 2016 FIRST Championship, in the opening ceremony, the band who played were in STEAMPUNK Outfit
Link of Vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1uk3as9Zd8

In 2017 STEAMWORKS was the game

In 2017 FIRST Championship, in the opening ceremony, the band are dress like mad scientist with static-y hair and lab coats
Link of Vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAY2id2MEtc

It is too close to be a coincidence. Perhaps this is what FIRST meant by 'Change is Coming' when they release Stronghold? They are going to give a hint of next years' game through championship events? If this is true we can just make our outfit whatever theme ahead of times; before September!

Stronghold was the 15th Century and Steamworks is the 19th Century is you minus 15 from 19 you get four. Their are 4 centuries between the two. So if you added 4 centuries to the 19th Century you would get the 23rd Century. I think that the theme would be based around the 23rd Century

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

I'll still be volunteering but as a huge sci-fi fanatic I wont be able to do any crazy costumes because Ill be working at the competitions.
Instead of volunteering be a mentor and wear that, also sometimes volunteers do wear crazy costumes. I suggest be a mentor instead though.

My guess is that it would have to do with collecting bits or bytes to hack the other team. Just my guess.

Or maybe collecting parts to a computer or spaceship.
