Considering it was in the manual last year on kickoff and it's now week 4 and there's no sign of it, I would think FoC is on a (maybe permanent) hiatus.

Injecting levity into the discussion with a common image macro seems to be ok, but neither of us are the police.

It's actually a decent mechanism for communicating perception of things effectively. I think. Idk, I'm just a grumpy old dude who wants to robot good and do other stuff good too.

I wonder if the first one didn't bring in the viewers FIRST wanted, so FIRST didn't do it this year. (They put serious production value into only getting about 2000 viewers.) I sort of suspect the real motive behind 2champs was to consolidate viewers into watching the FoC matches, so I wonder what FIRST will do differently if they try it again.

Re: 2018 Einstein Schedule

I'm curious if FIRST would consider holding champs in N/S America and in Asia/Australia. It would definitely make things more convenient for international teams, especially since most non-American teams are in Asia and Australia, with the numbers there only growing. Based on current international growth, an international champs seems quite plausible in 10-20 years. Maybe in Shanghai or Tokyo, which both have accommodations and large convention centers and stadiums.

Well, interesting fact: Twitch crashed during Festival of Champs, and was only pinned to the front page for ~1/2 the time. In addition, there were multiple "major tournaments" in eSports going on at the time so... not exactly an ideal slot. A bunch of factors just so happened to go kerfluey at once.

I think scheduling makes or breaks it.

This couldn't possibly be true. FoC was only added after 2champs was announced because of FIRST community feedback.

I think scheduling makes or breaks it.
Plus, it was a Saturday morning Eastern time. Most of North America (which has the overwhelming majority of FIRST teams) would've been up with the sun (or earlier) to watch live. I remember watching in my PJs.

I think you either see that, or you see the equivalent of bowl games start to develop. Something qualified for, something given the full production value, but not necessarily the FIRST Championship.

Imagine, if you will: 2Champz in Houston and Detroit for 2018, but FIRST then says the 150-team, two-division Los Angeles Tournament of Champions will happen some time after regionals end (maybe late April, maybe June). Winners, Chairman's, and EI qualify for the 2019 FIRST Championship. That probably won't draw the Poofs off of their plans, but treat it like a big deal and I bet you get quite a few teams who punched their tickets at regionals or district championships to show up.
