It won't affect our team personally, but I fear that many south and east of us will be put in a very tight position.

Re: NY Regionals and Options 2018

Both Long Island events dropped. Back to back week 6 (more like week 6.5 as the event happens the day after NYC is done) and 7(which is the day after the first event is done).

After 5 years attending Long Island, 1156 probably will not be able attend, it's too late in the season for us. We will miss Hofstra.

Re: NY Regionals and Options 2018

Coming up on 1 week until registration opens and we now have the same number of events for 2018 as we did for 2017.

Still hoping for oft-rumored Utica event to drop tomorrow in time for it to be an option for us.

Oddly, I can personally say it would be the only reason I actually wanted to go to Utica in my life.

After some delay, SUNY Poly is proud to announce the inaugural Central New York Regional.
This will be week 1 March 1-4th at SUNY Poly's Field House.
It is currently set to host 40 teams, we are trying to plan some things to help teams out.
We will be seeing about opening rooms in our building for teams to host scouting meetings, as well as give out information packets for things in the area.

Cool Re: NY Regionals and Options 2018

Now with Utica, I'm curious to see the first round picks for all the NY (and surrounding teams). I seem to recall a big cluster of teams around Rochester and another around Albany. Will those clusters naturally pick FLR and Tech Valley first as home events?

In Binghamton we are still 2 hours away from the nearest events (although it does open some more opportunities). I think there was a team in Potsdam that might still have us beat on most remote team in NY (and oddly, Binghamton isn't that remote).

Debating with our team what o ur round selections will be ...

Oh no! You will most definitely be missed

I'm really glad that SBPLI is accounting for mass amount of LI teams, Hofstra was super crowded this year, with some pits having to be 9x10. I think for the future though, having two fields in parallel at a bigger venue (the Nassau Colosseum is right next door) is a better solution. I can't imagine how exhausted the volunteers will be after a week of straight comp.

I'm a little dissapointed NYC is during Spring Break. Having done HVR last year, NYC would have been a fun change, but we can't since so many students are on vacation.

2869 looks to compete at Hudson Valley and SBPLI 2. Can't wait to see you all there!

Re: NY Regionals and Options 2018

Allegedly it was looked into in having Nassau colesium hold a two field event. I'm assuming some problems ensued with getting two fields over to there.

Hofstra is most likely going to use the field right from NYC. Not sure where they might get the other field from.
I could be wrong but it is based on what I heard.

Nassau Coliseum would be several times more expensive than Hofstra, so it's still financially unmanageable. It gets looked at and revisited all the time, but the rental's even more now after the renovation. If more money were available the next best choice would probably be to run a separate second LI event further out on the island to better accommodate Suffolk County teams, especially the Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton/Southold/Hampton Bays/Westhampton/etc. teams.

This year the NYC playing field will be busy with playoffs the same day that SBPLI should be setting up (Sunday). If they use the same field SBPLI would have to start setting up at Midnight for an 8:30am opening. In future years that wouldn't be such a problem.

Yeah I had a contact that I transferred to SBPLI to look into. Said contact was a regional director of one of the companies that owns rights to the coliseum, and said their company was interested in giving back to the community and doing some corporate outreach, so they were interested in renting the venue at a reduced price for the non-profit.

Though this only happened about 8 months ago and SBPLI is following up on their own, so definitely not enough time to plan everything yet, which is why it's still at Hofstra. I wouldn't discount the fact it might happen in 2019, though.
