Add a brand new $1.9B , 65-70,000 capacity stadium for the Raiders a few miles away. Could potentially house a unified championship actually
Vegas as a west coast championship for western teams would be trans-formative to the area as far, far more teams would be able commute by bus.

Re: If You Could Choose Where the FIRST Championship Goes Next Where Would it Be?

Does Vegas have enough non-casino hotels to support an event of the FRC Championship's magnitude? I know there are many school districts who will not allow students to stay in a hotel with a casino attached (this was even a concern with some Detroit hotels). There are enough to support the regional event in Vegas, but I'm curious if there's enough for an event several times that size.

Volunteer and staff housing could potentially be in casino hotels, though.

A Seattle champs would be nice, because then we wouldn't have to travel if we qualified.

When we were planning to attend the vegas regional we looked into airbnb for this very reason. The houses in the area are huge was all around cheaper and more cozy of a feel than a hotel.

  • The last I heard (this is a total rumor, and not at all confirmed), Javitz was asking for $1 million for the NYC regional alone (65ish teams).
  • Hotels cost way too much in Manhattan and it's hard to stay outside due to the first bullet
If you pick randomly, you have a 2/3 chance of not having significantly problems flying into NYC.

FIRST could save a tremendous amount of funds and may be even create a situation where the first-week winner could easily meet the second-week winner for an overall champion.
Assuming FIRST insists on continuing with 2 champs, I think this would be a great idea. Also, if both championships were at the same venue (I think Indianapolis would be a great place as others have said), FIRST wouldn't necessarily have to split the teams up by geographical location, and Michigan teams would be able to take on teams like the Poofs again.

Considering that they struggled to find a suitable venue for DCMP on the west side, I wouldnt keep your hopes up.

Apparently CO would be geographically the best spot for Southchamp teams, so there assuming we cant change anything else.

Minneapolis.

The new Vikings arena is amazing, and its not like they are going to be getting much use out of it this year, so we might as well host a win in it.

Oh the life of a Viking fan...

Toronto is a good idea, but the only place i can think of happening is at Rogers centre (home of the Toronto Blue jays), and i don't think it has enough space to host worlds with 6 fields.

Mitchell, SD. Corn Palace.

Pros: Centrally located. Ideal for Maize Craze.
Cons: Reduced team numbers. Only Maize Craze is allowed. Marginal airports.

Yes, FIRST could randomly assign teams each year to a different championship, or use some other non-geographic method.

Note also that Indianapolis (Marion) and Detroit (Wayne) are almost exactly the same average distance from all FRC teams at 1296 vs 1293 miles.
