Go to Post It is a difficult balancing act - we're engineers because we like to solve problems, and to take a step back and let someone else solve it, with what may be a poorer solution, is darn hard. - DonRotolo [more]

Minimum Bumper Length Rules

Our team is planning on placing intake rollers on both long 38 inch sides on our robot, taking up the middle ~22 inches on either side, as to satisfy the 8in bumper-vertex distance required by rule [R27]. However [R35] states:

"Teams shall display their team number on the Bumpers in four locations at approximately 90° intervals around the perimeter of the Robot. The numerals must be at least 4 in. high, at least ¾ in. in stroke width, and be either white in color or outlined in white. Team numbers must be clearly visible from a distance of not less than 100 ft, so that judges, referees, and announcers can easily identify competing Robots."

Here is where we are confused:
  1. Is it legal to proceed with our roller plan, which would require two cutouts on either long side of the robot?
  2. Does the team number have to be marked directly in the center of the bumper on any given side of the robot?

Re: Minimum Bumper Length Rules

1. I don't see why it would be illegal.
2. Nope. Just once on each side of a 4 sided robot and in line with other rules regarding bumpers.
