Swap D-link with old Linksys bridge for practice bot?

We took our D-Link router off of last years robot to use on this years competition robot. Can we swap the D-Link with the 2010 Link-Sys Bridge to get comm on another robot? Any other suggestions?

Re: Swap D-link with old Linksys bridge for practice bot?

You mean the old square black bridge?

It's only a wireless bridge, not a wireless access point. You can't connect a WiFi-equipped computer to it directly; you need a true access point like the blue wireless router that was also supplied the years the black bridge was used. So it can be done -- the TechnoKats do it regularly -- but it requires some fixed infrastructure.

However, you can put the wireless router on the robot and connect the Driver Station computer to it in exactly the same way it connects to the white D-Link. The Linksys routers I'm familiar with use exactly the same power connector and exactly the same voltage as the Linksys bridge.
