2012 IRI Scholarships!

Announcing the 2012 IRI Scholarships

For 2012, we will be awarding multiple Technical / Open Scholarships and 1 Teaching Scholarship. We expect each scholarship to be $1500 - $2000.

These scholarships are for 2011-2012 school year seniors who will be attending post high school education institutions (college, community college, university, technical school). You must be attending in the fall 2012 - the check will be written to you and the school and must be deposited into your "school account".


The sponsoring companies / organizations will read the applications and make their award decisions. It is very important that you follow the guidelines below and be sure you have included all of the requested information. Don't make it hard on the sponsoring companies!

The sponsoring companies for the Technical / Open scholarships will determine if they are focusing only on a technical / engineering career or if they will allow any field of study.

Requirements / Actions
1. Student must submit answers to a short question set (below) and answer an essay question.
2. Student must obtain a letter of recommendation from 1 adult, preferably FIRST related. This reference should not be a family member of the student.
3. The team must be attending the 2012 IRI and it is preferred that the student also be attending. If you are not able to attend, please include a statement as to "why not" at the end of your essay.

Please be sure that you and your reference use the same name on the letters! (i.e. don't mix given name and nicknames).

DEADLINE:
Applications and references must be received by MONDAY JULY 2.

I would think that since FIRST is international, and we do love our Canadian friends, that anyone attending IRI should be eligible for these scholarships.

If this isn't the case, then I highly suggest that we double think the rulings.

Three Canadian 1114 students have won scholarships in the past, so not being an American won't hinder you.

But i need to be graduating this year to get one? Or can i apply and get one this year for going to a university in 2013-2014?

Yes, you need to be graduating this year to get an IRI scholarship. The IRI scholarships are aimed at students who are graduating high school during this year, and are attending a post-high school college or university this coming fall.
