I wear eye glasses...

After long years of sitting in front of books, TV, monitor, I have to wear eye glasses to improve my vision. After being chosen as driver for this year's robot, I am a bit concern about the actual competition. Do Drivers have to wear safety glasses during a match behind the plastic wall? If so, do normal glassess work? Or where can I get cool looking safety glasses that can fit over my normal glasses?

Ken,
Yes, drivers do wear safety glasses behind the wall. As for just wearing your regular glasses, I'm not sure what FIRST's call would be on that, but I know that in the past, all members of our drive team had to wear safety's over vision correcting glasses. I would think your best bet would be a woodworking store, or a Home Depot, but if you can't find anything, stop by our pit, and I can lend you a pair.

Lora

P.S. Congrats on getting chosen, hopefully we'll get to drive together! ;o)

I'm not quite sure.. I always were my normal seeing glasses on the field, and I was always told it was ok and never had to wear safety glasses over (certain seeing glasses have the safety factor built in).. anyway, and in NJ, on Thursday they were stressing that everyone bring safety glasses to the field, but if you had regular glasses, they didn't stress that you wear 'em..

just my experience, my 3 years of driving and now coaching i didn't have to wear safety glasses on top of my other glasses..

colleen :-)

Last year, they did not require me to wear safety glasses over my prescription glasses, but this year they did at NJ. I would bring a pair in case they do require you to wear them. I just used a regular cheap pair - they weren't the best, but they worked.
