Crazy Robot Connection

Our robot connection is going wild. Our drive station and robot are connected, but the computer won't display anything on our robot. We've tried everything we can think of, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What does this mean? The driver station, the dashboard, SmartDashboard, etc?

You say the driver station is connected, does it show that the robot code is deployed? Is it reading the voltage? Can you control the robot?

In lieu of that, I'd suggest turning off the firewall on the driverstation PC to make sure that's not interfering with anything. Install any updates to the software, install windows updates, restart the computer. Make sure the router is configured correctly as well.

Also check all the connections on the robot. Specifically the one between the sidecar and the cRIO and the power connections between the cRIO and the PDB.

(I also second the motion to provide screenshots )

Re: Crazy Robot Connection

Sorry for the confusion. (Completely my fault.) The drive station, dashboard etc. are all working fine. They say our robot code is deployed and working. However it displays the battery power at 0%, and doesn't give any information on voltage or similar measurements. We also can't control the robot, although we can view through the webcam connected to the cRio. I'll have the team try turning off the firewall, as well as updating our computer and possibly our LabView as well. I can't include any screenshots today, since somebody else has it and is trying to swap out the cRio. Thanks guys.

The problem with you not having the battery status displayed has to do with a pair of wires going to a breakout on the crio not being connected

Re: Crazy Robot Connection

Very likely. Check everything related to the cRIO and the Sidecar board. It sounds like your cable running between the sidecar and the module in the cRIO is loose.

Re: Crazy Robot Connection

If the "Communication" and "Robot Code" indicators on the Driver Station are green, you probably don't have any firewall issues. The battery voltage display needs a number of things to be installed correctly: an NI 9201 Analog Module in Slot #1 of the cRIO, with an Analog Breakout plugged in, the voltage sense jumper installed in the far pair of pins, and 12 volts connected to the power input from a 20-amp breaker in the Power Distribution Board.

"They" say the code is working, but that doesn't match not being able to control the robot. How do "they" know it's working?

You say there's a webcam connected to the cRIO, and you're able to view its images on the Dashboard. That's how things were set up a few years ago, but now the Axis camera is supposed to be plugged in directly to the D-Link router. Which way is it actually connected? If you're getting images with it connected the old way, it sounds like you're using an obsolete cRIO image.

Re: Crazy Robot Connection

If you're connected and can't move the robot when everything seems that its working properly, double check and make sure your joysticks are actually plugged in. I can't even count how many times that tripped me up and sent me on a wild goose chase. Check the setup tab in the driver station, the joysticks should be displayed on the right.
