Post Robots Hanging on Each Other

Is there any way we'd be allowed to have another robot hang off of ours while we're at the 90" tier?

Rule G33: A ROBOT may only be supported (fully or partially) by another ROBOT if one of the ROBOTS is in contact with a PYRAMID.

So yes, it is allowed in the rules.

G33 "Violation: If extended, strategic, or repeated, TECHNICAL FOUL."

Having another robot hang off of yours for points could be considered strategic, correct?

It only applies when the rule is being violated

Re: Robots Hanging on Each Other

Ah, okay. Thank you.

Then you could have another robot hang off of yours on the pyramid.

Re: Robots Hanging on Each Other

While it is certainly allowed for one robot to support another, you will have to be careful if you are trying to get points. Specifically refer to section 3.1.5.2

Quote:
A ROBOT has CLIMBED its PYRAMID if it contacts the PYRAMID in
-sequential order (Level 0, 1, 2, 3) during ascent and
-no more than two (2) Levels simultaneously.
So if the robot you assist has not contacted the pyramid correctly, it may not count as a valid climb (and thus provide points).

Re: Robots Hanging on Each Other

Is the ideal robot for this going to be a 2337 Breakaway type or a robot that hangs itself and drops a winch for others?

Re: Robots Hanging on Each Other

The ruling states that a robot must contact the pyramid in ascending levels. If you picked them up, they will have properly satisfied this constraint in my understanding of the rules.

They will have only contacted level 0. You can't fail at touching in succession if you only ever touch one zone. It works as long as the robot being lifted doesn't touch the pyramid during the lift, by my interpretation.

Another issue to consider is to make sure you stay under 84" tall during the lift.

Re: Robots Hanging on Each Other

Due to the top of the inside of the pyramid being 24" x 24" I don't think it's very possible to get 2 robots in the 30 point level on the inside unless they are extremely small.

It is completely feasible to drop a line to have them come up the inside to the second scoring level, using a piece of lexan sticking out to hit each bar as the ascended.

As for the 84" rule, you would take the maximum required to get them to level 3; 90" and subtract their robot height from it. As long as they are 7+" tall you wouldn't break any rules.

You are correct that they will have only contacted level zero, and aren't in violation of any rules. However, points are only awarded for CLIMBS, and CLIMBS require sequential contact. Therefore, they would get no points, even if they are above 60".

At least this is my interpretation, since the definition of CLIMB specifically says "contact". A Q&A would clarify.
