Flipper Mechanism

Hi,

We have a near working prototype that looks like a pinball flipper that spins 360 degrees when activate (see attached picture). Since the mechanism goes outside the frame perimeter and may spin fast, I wonder what are your opinions regarding the rules section 3.2.6 ROBOT-ROBOT Interaction.

We intend to keep the flipper within 2" from the ground (to avoid hitting other robot's bumpers) and command the rotation with a button (the flipper wouldn't spin 100% of the time).

Thanks

That is what would worry me. I don't think that it will be legal because you will have it spinning quickly. If you had it rotating slowly (I don't know what its function is or if it even could spin slowly and still accomplish its task) I think that it would be legal.

I would recommend Q&A or talking to previous year's inspectors. You might also want to try and create a new design in the meantime.

Good luck!

Re: Flipper Mechanism

I remember having the same idea at my team
Did you consider the use of a piston that pulls a flipper pole? Might solve the out of the robot problem. I would also recomend that for maximum spin you will make the stick as a quarter of a circle u
In order to always touch the "corner" of the frisbee
