Joystick: D-Pad to Assign L/R Joysticks to Different Motors

Is it possible to use the D-Pad of a gamepad to assign the joysticks to different motors.

For example. Pressing Up changes the joysticks to control an arm, Pressing Down changes the joysticks to drive mode.

Is this possible? Thanks.

Yes, it's possible.

Whether or not it's a good idea is another matter entirely. Why wouldn't you use a second controller (and a second person) to command the arm motion?

If you convince me that it's something you really want to do, I can give you some programming hints that will help you do it.
