Hi everyone! AACK! 31 minutes 'til SATs!!!

Anyway, to get my mind off pressing stuff like that, I'm posting on the board with a semi-strange question.

>>the newcomers have all seen a real competition, and >>now have a terminal case of robot fever, and can't >>wait to BUILD SOMETHING...

Sam wrote this over in the general forum, and I thought I'd bring it over here for people to ponder.

What was your first case of 'robot fever' like? Do you consider it a chronic disease, something that reignites itself when you least expect it? Or do you think that once you get it, and when you've remedied yourself, that the remedy is now infused in your life?

Ok, I'm done now....even if noone responds to this, thanks for reading this & giving me the chance to relax a little before the test.

-Jess Boucher

Oooh, good thread! I think it'd be really interesting to see what some people have to say about this...you look at people who are like up to their eyeballs in FIRST now and wonder 'How did they ever *think* of starting this?'

So anyway...here's how my 'robot fever' started:

First of all, I'm a senior right now...my robot fever started when I was a sophomore. I joined the team because my coach suggested I apply, so I did and made the team. I went to the workplace a few times and basically watched people...I think I annoyed my teammates by clicking the limit switches too much (does anyone else find those really fun to play with?)...and I think I might have filed stuff once or twice. I also worked on our crate that year.

And then in March, not having gone to CDI in the fall of that year, I had no idea what to expect when I went to Great Lakes. I hadn't seen any pictures or video of any kind...and it totally overwhelmed me...but in a really good way! And then regionals are of course nothing compared to Nationals...so I came back from that all excited about FIRST and emailed some of my teammates asking what I could do to help for next year.

I guess that was when my 'robot fever' started...and now that I think of it, that was really bad timing, wasn't it? I had to wait nearly a *whole* *year* to go back to Nationals! But if anything, I think I was even more psyched and prepared for last year's season, which turned out better than I'd imagined.

So that was my story...what's everyone else's?

Janna
