Re: pic: VeraPlanetary Motor Centering Ring
That a neat idea. Did you follow the mounting directions on the VEX website? Once we learned the proper mounting instructions we have our gearboxes spinning much smoother.

Re: pic: VeraPlanetary Motor Centering Ring
We just designed and fabricated our own plates to match the motor we were using... in our case... we designed a thicker plate with the correct size opening for the AM motor... a thinner plate matching the ones that came with the gearboxes with the correct size holes for both the bag motor and the banebot 550 motor....
We didn't like using the little spacers for the AM motor... and wanted to make changes quickly in the pits for the other motors... These worked fine... we waterjetted them and they really help in a quick change of motors... We have extra plates with new motors that can be easily switched out. One word of warning for everyone using those gear boxes... Please use locktite on those set screws... they have a habit of working loose...we have seen this several times on prototypes... Nice, versatile little gearboxes.... |

Re: pic: VeraPlanetary Motor Centering Ring
Allen, we wound up having to do something very similar. Even when we'd follow the website instructions, if the motor plate was mounted even slightly off-center to the plate the entire gearbox would bind no matter how many times we loosened/retightened a quarter-turn. Ours still aren't perfect (but they're much better) because we don't have metric drill bits.

Re: pic: VeraPlanetary Motor Centering Ring
We've been using fibre washers to line ours up.... we also made up a spacing tool

Re: pic: VeraPlanetary Motor Centering Ring
Great modification! I think we'll be using this trick in the future, since we also had difficulty getting the motors to be concentric. Thanks for the idea!
