It was a really short article, like 6 sentences long with a small picture. If I remember, I can find it again and take it to show you. Just thought I would tell you there has been an article from Popular Science. Clark |

USA Today... ...On the SPORTS PAGE!

Posted on 11/27/2000 10:51 PM MST In Reply to: QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!! posted by Andy Grady on 11/26/2000 9:55 AM MST: Sticking with my changing the Culture of America theme, I have got to go with USA Today, but not as a puff piece in the 'Isn't that Strange' Section but as a real sports story covered in the usual way in the Sports Section. In many ways this would not be a boost for FIRST as much as it would be an admission that FIRST has already achieved much of what it was intended to achieve. I have already said that FIRST will have 'made it' when we get on Oprah of course, but how about this measure of cultural impact: Las Vegas publishing a betting line on the various FIRST teams' chances of winning the Nationals. At this point, I would have to put the best odds on either 3-D/Oakland Technical Center or on Beatty/Team Hammond, with WildStang, The Buzz and CHAOS not far behind... ...Wait a minute! Didn't we have this conversation a few weeks back? ;-) Joe J. |

Action

Posted on 12/1/2000 3:02 PM MST In Reply to: QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!! posted by Andy Grady on 11/26/2000 9:55 AM MST: So, should we simply desire to be covered by these TV channels and magazines, or do we want to do something about it? I say that we pick a few and start bombarding them with emails. They may start changing their ways if they got 500-1000 emails about covering FIRST events. Who should we 'attack' first? Andy B. |

It does not take much longer to do many then it does to do just one. Each one of us can just keep sending the same personal message to many email addresses. So, are you compiling the list? Everyone should just start posting any email addresses they know so we can all send our form letters. I pledge to send an email to any media company email address that I see posted here. BTW, We have already been bombarding our local PBS station, WTTW for the past years. They finally agreed to cover the Midwest regional competition and much of our team's progress and are doing some segments on it on one of their shows. They actually asked us to provide some of the CDI footage that we got to them. Raul |

Press Releases

Instead of mass emails, how about everyone getting their sponsors to release a Press Release about FIRST on the same day? I figure that if enough large companies are giving similiar press releases the AP or Retuers or someone will eventually pick it up. Matt |

Ok, in my infite boredom of a Friday night with noone around and the webcast over, I pulled together a quick list of all the TV/Publications that everyone mentioned....so, if you have a minute (I know, I know, 'What free minute?') do a little searching & find the places that we can barrage with emails/letters to get this thing done. When you found them, add them to the thread for all to see. ::grin:: -Jessica B, #237 'Our sleep team needs more robot.' ***** ABC NBC CNBC MSNBC FOX CBS CNN TNN MTV VH1 TBS FAM WGN UPN PAX PBS HBO ESPN ESPN2 Oprah ( Had to put it down, you never know!)TIME Discover Popular Science WIRED Machine Design Design News Newsweek USA Today, Sports Page |
