Re: wind river help

I've not tried running some of the tools your programmer is going to need to run under anything than windows. The software to image the crio and the driverstation assumes a full windows environment.

It also depends on the language used. The ucpp project works for compiling c++ under wine and downloading to the robot. You don't get some of the debugging tools. There was a c-sharp implementation of netconsole posted to chief delphi that has the nice attribute that it doesn't go away when the robot reboots.

They could run parallels or one of the other VM tools to have a windows environment. Some people have posted issues with getting the imaging tool to recognize the network and the crio through the VM network bridge. The networking tool assumes a very specific environment. I've not tried it.

I've only seen the labview tools run under windows.

Unless you have someone else that has already done this to give advice and help, your programmer is going to be on their own. When they ask for help, some people might point out the first problem is that you are not running windows.

I'm not trying to say it cannot be done. I'm just saying that it takes a lot of work sometimes to get the tools to work, and when you add a non-native windows environment on top of it, your just making it more difficult than it needs to be.
