Go to Post To the best engineers, scientists, and thinkers, something that is "hard" isn't something to avoid; it is something that begs for us to prove that we can do it. STEM is built on the very idea of trying something, failing, and trying something different. - Bryan Herbst [more]

Super Soaker Inventor / FRC Judge, Finally Gets His Due

Our Peachtree Regional & Championships Judge Lonnie Johnson is a wonderful judge and is always a huge hit with the students every March here in Atlanta. He does a show and tell with the students about how he came up with the idea to create the Super Soaker water gun. He always brings his original creation. Then he turns the water onto the other judges (usually Karen) and sometimes the students.

Well, it appears that Lonnie will sometime soon receive a nice payday that I'm sure he's waited a long time for. My guess is that he's doing just fine however, he deserves the money. It took 10 years from concept to the first retail sale and quickly became the #1 selling toy in the world.

Here is a video of Lonnie from "The Peachtree" in 2012.

Happy for you and your family sir.
Dave
