Automatic Shifter Plates

Hi CD.

This is at least the start of a project I'm working on.
It's an automated design system for a 2-Speed, 2-CIM shifter.
I wanted to put it out here for people to play around with/test if they felt like it.

Currently, the system works as follows:
  • User inputs gears into the JVN calculator. (It's called Linked_Parameters)
  • Once desired speeds are achieved, the user can then save and close the calculator.
  • The CAD will then read gear sizes from the calculator and create a plate.
  • Once a plate is made, a reference assembly with two of the plates and generated mockups of the gears is updated to match.

There are some limitations though:
  • It only does holes for the Bearings/Gears, CIMS, and 4 corner holes for assembly. Holes for face mounting or attaching a cylinder will have to be added by the user.
  • It will try to pocket, but it will not do fillets (rounding the edges). That will need to be done manually.
  • Right now, it makes all the bearing holes .875". I haven't made separate parameters for each bearing yet. One or two holes/extrusions would get you the size you need if it's different.
  • It uses Inventor 2014
  • It's currently made to specifically do a 2-Speed, 3-Stage Gearbox. I'll upload versions for different type of gearboxes later. Though smart manipulation of the JVN calculator would probably allow you to do other things.

This was just a fun experiment for me before build season. The intention was to accelerate the creation of a gearbox plate so I would have something basic to build off of.

I probably forgot some stuff, so I apologize in advance.
Comments and questions are greatly appreciated.

Also attached is a picture of one of the plates it made. No manual work was done except entering gear sizes and then a quick fillet.
