Another rules question

Other on team #639, Red B^2, from Ithaca High School and Cornell University.



Does anyone know if iron can be used (w/out purchasing from small parts)? Where is the line drawn between iron and steel, or is iron considered a type of steel? It's just more carbon content.

You do not mention what type of iron/steel, but in either case, it must fall under the AHL. Sheets and plate up to 1/4" thick are listed as "steel", and angle is also listed as "steel." Most people and places refer to the angle as "angle iron", but you are correct in that steel is simply an alloy of iron with carbon and other trace elements. These elements make the iron stronger, and so I recommend using steel regardless over iron.

Only angle and plate up to 1/4" thick is allowed on the AHL, otherwise its back to SPI and their limited selection.
