Indicators

Hi,

I'm working on control systems for our robot and ran into a problem. We'd like to give the driver feedback from the robot and the OI using LED's, etc. on our black control box. However, I can see no way of either a) adding LED's for anything but the same ones that are already on the OI or b)having anything close to the total number of indicators that we need (about 8-12). My ideal solution for the problem was to use a multiplexor inside the black box and feed it with serial output from the OI, which would then turn on various indicators. However, they are not on the approved equipment list. Also, what is the deal on LED's? The aforementioned list makes no mention of them. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric Gallimore

If you can stomach the programming, I'd recommend using
a laptop hooked up to the Dashboard Port. If I'm not
mistaken, there are 11 bits of data that can be sent
back from the Robot Controller and transmitted to the
Dashboard port. I've got some C code for a viewer and
decoder linked to below. I've updated the code a bit
but haven't been able to test it yet because of lack of
nearness to the control system....
